Introduction¶
The core CLI tool for DeepSeek Harness (DSH), @deepseek-ai/dsh, needs regular updates to gain new features and security fixes. Manually checking versions and upgrading can interrupt your workflow. The dsh-update-notifier plugin addresses this pain point by automatically detecting available updates for @deepseek-ai/dsh when the DSH Web interface starts and providing clear upgrade guidance when a new version is found.
Plugin Purpose¶
This is a network-enabled utility plugin maintained by developer xia-sc and released under the MIT license. It confirms the version status by cross-validating the npm registry with GitHub Tags, aiming to make toolchain maintenance more automated for DSH users.
Core Features¶
- Automatic detection and polling: Performs the first check 1 second after startup, then polls once every 6 hours. It also supports manual “Check Now”.
- Version comparison: Compares the local
package.json#versionwith the npm registry (dist-tags.latest/next) usingsemvercompatibility rules. - UI feedback:
- When an update is available, shows a dismissible banner. After dismissal, a lightweight pill appears above the input box and can be clicked to expand again.
- The card provides a one-click copy install command:npm i -g @deepseek-ai/dsh@{latest|next}. - Error handling: Provides a retry option if a check fails. If no result is displayed for 30 seconds, a retryable error card appears.
- Theme adaptation: Supports dark/light themes, using colors from DSH design variables.
Installation and Enabling¶
Add the plugin using the official CLI command:
dsh plugin --profile web add https://github.com/xia-sc/dsh-update-notifier
Restart DSH Web after adding it to make it take effect.
Typical Usage¶
After the plugin starts, if it detects a new version of @deepseek-ai/dsh, it displays an update banner at the top of the interface. Users can click the command in the banner to copy the install command, then restart DSH Web to complete the upgrade. If the network check fails, the interface provides a retry entry.
Technical Details and Notes¶
- RPC routing: Mounted under
/api. - Dependencies: Depends on
@deepseek-ai/cordis ^4.0.1. - Style cleanup: Automatically removes styles when the plugin is uninstalled.
- Host integration: Waits for the check result within the host self-check window (wait time ≤ 2 seconds) to avoid blocking.
- Timeout mechanism: If no check result is received within 30 seconds, the interface displays a retryable error state.
Summary¶
This plugin detects DSH updates through an API and solves the pain point of version maintenance. For developers who need to update DSH frequently, it is a practical helper tool.
