Introduction

The default appearance of DeepSeek Harness (DSH) covers basic needs. However, when more precise visual control is required, the dsh-aurora-skin plugin provides a solution. It offers three hand-tuned skins for DSH through pure CSS token overrides, without modifying core code.

Skin List

The plugin includes three hand-tuned color schemes. Every color value is a concrete CSS color, with no var() indirection, ensuring contrast across the entire UI.

  1. Aurora

    • Mode: Dark
    • Palette: deep midnight blue, electric cyan, warm coral.
    • Style: aurora floating above a precise control room.
  2. Paper

    • Mode: Light
    • Palette: cool paper white, deep teal.
    • Style: feels like a research paper, suitable for daytime reading.
  3. Hologram

    • Mode: Dark
    • Palette: near-black, acidic cyan.
    • Style: has a distinct terminal atmosphere, resembling a precision instrument.

Installation

The plugin can be installed via the official command or from a local directory.

Official command:

dsh plugin --profile web add breaker505/dsh-aurora-skin

Local pnpm install:

cd ~/.dsh/profiles/web
pnpm add file:path/to/dsh-aurora-skin

Local Git clone:

git clone https://github.com/breaker505/dsh-aurora-skin

After cloning, add "dsh-aurora-skin" to the dsh.profile.bundles array and restart dsh web.

Usage

After installation, open Settings -> General -> Aurora Skins.

  1. Select a skin from the list.
  2. To restore the default DSH appearance, click “Follow system”.

Note: the Aurora Skins selector row is positioned above the dsh-skin row (slot order 15 vs 20), so custom skins are displayed with priority.

Implementation Details

The plugin’s design philosophy is based on the following principles:

  • Tokens, not code: The plugin only adds --dsw-alias-* custom properties to <body>. It does not mutate the DOM, override internal DSH components, or monkey-patch.
  • Reversible by design: Selecting “Follow system” clears the overrides, restoring the UI to the original DSH palette without requiring uninstall patches.
  • Persistence: Settings are stored in localStorage.
  • Development workflow: lib/client.js is hand-written CJS code that wraps the runtime-loaded factory using window.__ModuleLoader__.load. No build step is required; edit the file directly and refresh dsh web to apply changes.
