Introduction¶
DeepSeek Harness is a framework for agent development. During long-running tasks, developers may not be able to watch the interface at all times and may miss important events, such as task completion, tool approval requests, waiting for a response, or errors. A traditional single beep makes it difficult to distinguish the urgency and type of events. The dsh-notify-bell plugin helps users quickly identify important events through auditory feedback by using semantic sounds and a bell toggle in the Web UI.
Plugin Overview¶
dsh-notify-bell is a community plugin maintained by developer ZYar-er. It aims to translate internal event signals from DeepSeek Harness into meaningful auditory cues.
Core Features¶
The plugin provides the following capabilities:
- Semantic notifications: different sounds are used for five event types: completion, approval, question, blocking, and error.
- Multi-platform playback:
- Browser: plays in DSH Web.
- Host: plays on Windows, WSL, and Linux.
- Fallback: if the host cannot play WAV files, it can fall back to the terminal BEL.
- Playback control:
- The Web UI provides a “mute/enable” toggle.
- Supports selecting playback mode: Browser / Backend / None.
- Configurable: supports configuring minimum duration, custom notification sounds, and more.
- No extra dependencies: depends only on the official
@deepseek-ai/schemastery.
Installation and Enablement¶
Install the plugin using the official command:
dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-notify-bell
After installation, depending on the current DSH setup, you may need to restart the dsh web service.
Typical Usage¶
- After starting DSH Web, a bell icon appears next to “Session log” in the interface.
- Click the bell icon to open the notification settings panel.
- In the panel, you can turn notifications on or off and choose where the sound is played (browser or backend).
Configuration Guide¶
The plugin follows the official DSH Cordis configuration model. The configuration is located in cordis.patch.yml.
Example configuration:
- id: notify-bell
config:
minDuration: 10
playback: backend
playback: controls where the sound is played. Valid values arebrowser, backend, ornone.minDuration: sets the minimum duration threshold for completion notifications. Events shorter than this duration do not trigger sound playback.
Use Cases and Notices¶
- This plugin is suitable for developers who need long-running tasks and want immediate auditory feedback.
- Browser autoplay restrictions: if browser playback mode is selected, browsers usually require the user to interact with the page once (click or keypress) before sound can play normally.
- Dependencies: the plugin only depends on
@deepseek-ai/schemasteryand does not introduce other runtime libraries.
Summary¶
dsh-notify-bell adds auditory status awareness to DeepSeek Harness. With simple configuration, you can avoid missing important agent events while keeping the interface clean. For more details, see the community catalog or the GitHub repository.
