Preface

The DeepSeek API uses a peak-off-peak pricing mechanism: weekdays from 09:00-12:00 and 14:00-18:00 are peak hours, during which prices double; all other times (including weekends) are off-peak hours, during which prices are halved. When developing with or invoking the DeepSeek Harness (DSH) Web GUI, it can be easy to incur unnecessary billing overhead if you do not know whether the current time falls within a peak window.

The native DSH interface does not provide this kind of real-time status indicator. The dsh-peak-status plugin is introduced below. It injects a native pill into the upper-right corner of the session header to display in real time whether the current Beijing time is within the API peak window.

Plugin Introduction

dsh-peak-status is a peak-period status indicator plugin for the DeepSeek Harness Web GUI. It is maintained by xiaoyi-xx and released under the MIT license. The plugin displays a small pill in the native conversation.session.header.utilities utility area, telling users in real time whether the current Beijing time is within a DeepSeek API peak window, and also providing a second-level clock, next transition countdown, and price indication.

Core Features

The plugin mainly provides the following capabilities:

  1. Real-time status display: determines whether the current Beijing time is within a DeepSeek API peak window.
  2. Clock display: shows a second-level clock in HH:MM:SS format using Beijing time (Asia/Shanghai timezone).
  3. Countdown: displays a countdown to the next peak/off-peak transition.
  4. Price indication: shows the current price multiplier (peak ×2, off-peak half price).
  5. Holiday calendar recognition: supports identification and notification for statutory holidays and weekends designated as makeup workdays. Statutory holidays and makeup workday weekends are billed as off-peak all day.
  6. Interactive details: clicking the pill expands a detail card that shows peak windows, countdown, and a progress bar.
  7. UI integration: deeply integrates with native Web UI theme variables (--dsw-alias-*) to blend into the interface.
  8. Persistent availability: remains available after dsh web restarts.
  9. Data caching: automatically fetches the official holiday table online and caches it locally.

Installation and Enabling

Run the following command in the terminal to install the plugin:

dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-peak-status

After installation completes, restart dsh web or refresh the page. The pill will appear in the upper-right corner of the session header.

Usage

  1. View: Check the pill in the upper-right corner of the session header. The plugin automatically updates its status every second.
  2. Interact: Click the pill to expand or collapse the detail card.
  3. Judge: Use the pill color and text to determine whether the current time is in a peak window or an off-peak window.

Applicable Scenarios and Considerations

Applicable scenarios: All developers or users who use the DSH Web GUI, especially those who are sensitive to API billing and want to avoid consuming budget during peak hours.

Considerations:
1. The plugin is only effective in the Web GUI environment (profile web) and is not applicable to other environments.
2. Holiday data is fetched online and supports a three-tier fallback mechanism (Host routing, Browser direct request, and weekend rules).
3. Billing rules: weekdays from 09:00-12:00 and 14:00-18:00 are peak hours; weekends are off-peak all day; statutory holidays and makeup workday weekends are billed as off-peak all day.

Summary

dsh-peak-status solves the problem of the DSH Web GUI lacking a real-time peak-window indicator by providing a native pill. It helps users better judge the optimal timing for API calls with a second-level clock and countdown, thereby improving cost control. The plugin is actively maintained and open-sourced at GitHub.
