The core philosophy of DeepSeek Harness (DSH) is “everything is a plugin.” When building agents or performing complex reasoning tasks, controlling how the model performs chain-of-thought reasoning usually requires carefully designed system prompts. dsh-weneedfirst is a plugin focused on this aspect; it standardizes the model’s thinking style by injecting a global system prompt.

Plugin Introduction

This is a DSH plugin maintained by XiaoWind, whose main function is to shape the model’s chain of thought. It registers a global system prompt section that instructs the model to adopt a role suitable for dialogue, forces the model to reason in English during reasoning, and requires every reasoning block to begin with “We need”.

The plugin has no build step and does not maintain additional runtime state. It only contributes a prompt section to the systemPrompt registry.

Installation and Activation

After installation, the plugin becomes active in all configuration files that include system prompts. Because the plugin declares dsh.bundle.patch and is automatically added to the configuration layer, there is no need to manually modify the configuration file structure.

  1. Run the installation command:
dsh plugin --profile web add git+https://github.com/XiaoWind/dsh-weneedfirst.git
  1. After installation is complete, the Web application must be restarted, because the plugin layer is composed at startup and does not support hot reloading.

Update

If you need to update the plugin version, use the following command:

dsh plugin --profile web update dsh-weneedfirst

Similarly, the Web application must be restarted after updating.

Configuration

The plugin’s default opening phrase is “We need”. You can override this default value by modifying the configuration file.

Add the following content to the configuration file cordis.patch.yml:

- id: we-need-first
  config:
    openingPhrase: "We need"

Usage Examples

After installation, the model will automatically follow the rules above when generating a chain of thought.

  • Adding the plugin:
dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-weneedfirst
  • Updating the plugin:
dsh plugin --profile web update dsh-weneedfirst

Notes

  • Stateless: The plugin does not depend on additional runtime state, so it is lightweight and easy to maintain.
  • Globally active: As long as system prompts are composed in the configuration file, the plugin takes effect.
  • Restart requirement: After modifying the configuration or updating the plugin, the Web process must be restarted for the changes to take effect.
