Introduction¶
DeepSeek Harness (DSH) adopts a plugin-based architecture. dsh-better-sidebar provides the basic UI for the sidebar, but the default Explorer functionality is relatively limited and typically does not have write access to the file system. During development or debugging, managing files directly within the conversation context, uploading assets, or adjusting the directory structure can often be cumbersome when operating the file system directly. dsh-sidebar-explorer-plus adds a tab named “Files” to dsh-better-sidebar, implements a file tree with React, and uses host-side APIs to handle file read/write operations, thereby providing full file management capabilities within the sidebar.
Plugin Overview¶
dsh-sidebar-explorer-plus is a file management plugin developed in TypeScript/React, designed specifically for the web sidebar of DeepSeek Harness.
It registers a tab through the ctx.betterSidebar.registerTab service of dsh-better-sidebar, without modifying the underlying sidebar source code. Its core purpose is to supplement the missing “write” operations in the built-in Explorer of dsh-better-sidebar, allowing users to upload, move, rename, and delete files directly from the sidebar.
Installation¶
Before installing, ensure the environment meets the following dependencies:
* A running DSH Web Profile
* dsh-better-sidebar (version >= 0.4.0)
* Node.js 20 or higher
Install it using the following command:
dsh plugin --profile web add github:Wulabalabo/dsh-sidebar-Explorer-Plus
After installation, you need to restart dsh web and perform a hard refresh in the browser (Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + R) to load the new plugin.
Usage¶
- Start DSH Web and open the sidebar.
- Click the “+” icon in the sidebar menu and select “Files”.
- Upload files/folders: Drag local files or folders directly into the file tree area. The plugin will upload them while preserving the original structure.
- Manage files: Right-click in the file tree to perform move, rename, delete, or create folder operations.
- Open files: Click a file in the file tree to open it in the sidebar editor.
Configuration and Limitations¶
The plugin has a default single-file upload limit of 50 MiB. To adjust this limit, add the uploadLimit field to the profile configuration.
- insert:
- id: sidebar-explorer
name: 'dsh-sidebar-explorer-plus'
config:
uploadLimit: 104857600 # 100 MB
Notes:
* Delete operations: Deleting files or folders is permanent, and confirmation is required before the operation.
* Overwriting and conflicts: Uploaded files can overwrite existing files with the same name; however, when moving or renaming, the operation will be rejected if the target path already exists.
* Security checks: The plugin includes Host/Origin request checks, working directory checks, and upload size limits. The current path check is implemented through string comparison and does not resolve symbolic links or fully normalize path traversal segments. Therefore, it is recommended to run the plugin within a trusted workspace.
* Build dependencies: The plugin repository includes built artifacts (the lib/ directory), so no local build step is required when installing via Git.
Summary¶
dsh-sidebar-explorer-plus integrates file system capabilities directly into the DSH sidebar UI, simplifying developers’ workflow for managing files and assets between the local machine and the workspace.
