In the development workflow for DeepSeek Harness (DSH), staring at the terminal for long periods can easily lead to fatigue. seek-on-dsh is a playful plugin that floats DeepSeek’s little whale, rendered as pixel art, in the bottom-right corner of the dsh web interface. It does not rely on GIFs or scripts; instead, it uses SVG animation and CSS keyframes to make it responsive to state.
This is a DSH plugin maintained by Win-Hao, classified under the “playful reskinning” category. Its core is a pixelated little DeepSeek whale that hovers in the bottom-right corner of dsh web and reacts differently depending on the current session state (such as waiting for approval, answering questions, working, and so on). The whale’s appearance is derived from the DeepSeek logo and pixelated onto a 40×31 grid.
Features¶
- State responsiveness: The plugin drives animation by reading a Harness session snapshot. Based on different session states (such as
pendingInteraction,question,plan-review, andworking), the whale performs different actions, such as opening its eyes wide while waiting for approval, typing while working, and jumping out of the water to celebrate when done. - Pure SVG implementation: It does not use GIF, APNG, or JavaScript scripts. Each state is a single SVG file with its own CSS keyframes. This allows it to scale to any size without becoming blurry and avoid interference from Content Security Policy restrictions.
- Interactive features:
- Poke: A single click triggers a “startled” state; if clicked repeatedly within 1.8 seconds, the whale becomes angry.
- Drag: The whale can be dragged to any position on the screen. While dragging, it shows a “carrying something” pose, and after release, the position is saved in
localStorage(key nameseek:spot). - Alt + click: Hold the Alt key and click the whale to manually cycle through all states for preview.
- Automatic patching: The plugin ships with
dsh.bundle.patch. During installation, it is automatically written to the profile’sdsh.profile.bundles, so developers do not need to manually modifycordis.patch.yml.
Installation and Enabling¶
Install the plugin:
dsh plugin --profile web add seek-on-dsh
After installation is complete, run dsh web and you will see the whale in the bottom-right corner of the interface.
Note: If dsh web is running while the installation is taking place, restart the service after installation is complete. The host stores the plugin list in memory, and leftover stale entries may cause duplicate factory registration errors.
Typical Usage and Behavior¶
- Idle antics: When there is nothing urgent, the whale performs actions such as hovering, drinking coffee, yawning, and spraying water. These “antics” switch every 12–30 seconds, and each one plays only one round, avoiding flicker at animation transitions.
- Sleep mode: If there is no activity for 90 seconds, the whale enters a sleeping state.
- Interaction passthrough: Only one quarter of the whale container’s area is clickable (the grab region); the rest remains transparent and passes interactions through, so it does not block clicks intended for the underlying application.
Technical Details¶
The plugin has 15 built-in states. To control size, the art assets are inlined and gzip-compressed at build time (with a compression ratio of approximately 8.7x). When the browser first loads a given state, it decompresses the data using DecompressionStream and then renders it via a blob URL in an <img> element.
