Introduction

When using DeepSeek Harness for extended conversations, it is often necessary to revisit earlier messages. With large amounts of stacked context, manually scrolling to find a specific instruction or response is very inefficient. The dsh-msg-index plugin is designed to solve this problem by providing a floating index panel that helps users quickly locate any user message in the current session.

Plugin Overview

This is a client-side plugin that provides message indexing and quick navigation for user messages in the current session, via a frosted-glass-style floating orb in the conversation window.

Core Features

  • Message Index: When expanded, it lists the user messages in the current session, including message numbers and content previews.
  • Click to Navigate: Clicking an index entry smoothly scrolls the page to the corresponding message location.
  • Search: Supports real-time search by message ID (numeric) or content (case-insensitive), with matching fragments highlighted.

Installation and Activation

Install the latest version using the official CLI:

dsh plugin --profile web add -w https://github.com/stnt04/dsh-msg-index/releases/latest/download/dsh-msg-index.tgz

After installation, restart dsh web. The floating orb will appear in the bottom-right corner of the conversation window.

Typical Usage

  1. Expand the Index: Click the floating orb in the bottom-right corner to expand the user message index list for the current session.
  2. Quick Navigation: Click any entry in the list, and the page will smoothly scroll to the corresponding message.
  3. Load History: Click the “Load Earlier Messages” button at the top of the list to load unrendered historical data page by page (the plugin does not load all history at once to avoid lag).
  4. Search and Highlight: Use the search box in the header, and enter an ID or content for real-time preview and highlighting.

Use Cases and Notes

This plugin is suitable for users who need to frequently look up specific instructions or responses in long conversations.

When using it, note the following:
* Dependencies: Page-level message positioning depends on the data-chat-anchor-key attribute provided by the DSH runtime and the _scrollBody class suffix on the main scroll container. If a DSH version update invalidates these selectors, they must be adjusted accordingly.
* Project Nature: This is a purely personal/for-archival project, with the code standard being “it works.”
* Performance Impact: Loading many messages may slow down web rendering, but input and output speed are not affected.

Conclusion

This plugin simplifies navigation in long conversations through visual indexing and message location features. For more technical details and usage feedback, please refer to the GitHub repository.
