Introduction

In the DeepSeek Harness (DSH) development workflow, it is common to open multiple files in the sidebar at the same time. When you need to check the exact location of a file on the local disk (for example, copying the path or inspecting the file tree structure), you often need to right-click or open a new window, which is not direct enough. The dsh-sidebar-enhancement-folder plugin solves this pain point by injecting buttons into editor tabs.

Plugin Introduction

This is an enhancement plugin designed for dsh-better-sidebar. It inserts an “Open Containing Folder” button into the toolbar of each open file editor tab. Clicking the button opens the directory containing the file in the system File Explorer and automatically selects the file.

The plugin is maintained by user mastereal and is currently in a purely personal-use stage without large-scale testing.

Core Features

  1. Embedded Button
The button is located in the tab’s own toolbar row. For Markdown/HTML files, the button appears next to the “Preview” and “Edit” buttons; for PDF, image, or binary files, the button appears in the title bar. The button always follows that tab.

  2. Tab Independence
Each tab has its own independent button and does not depend on which pane is active. Even when switching to an inactive tab, the button remains present and available.

  3. Layout Compatibility
The button is part of the host DOM structure, so it supports any changes to the window layout, including dragging, splitting panes, and resizing width.

  4. Reliable Windows Positioning
The plugin uses the explorer.exe /select command to open the file. The code handles windowsVerbatimArguments and quotes, allowing it to reliably process file names containing spaces or Chinese characters.

  5. Self-Healing Mechanism
The plugin includes built-in cleanup logic that can identify and remove duplicate or leftover buttons, keeping the toolbar clean.

  6. Path Resolution
The plugin runs on the host side (browser side), responsible for stripping the file:// prefix and resolving relative paths against the session working directory.

Installation and Activation

Use the official installation command to download and install from the GitHub Release:

dsh plugin --profile web add https://github.com/mastereal/dsh-sidebar-enhancement-folder/archive/refs/tags/v1.0.7.tar.gz

After installation, follow these steps to ensure it takes effect:

  1. Restart the dsh web service.
  2. Hard refresh the page in the browser (Windows/Linux: Ctrl + Shift + R).
  3. Close all old DSH windows and tabs.

Note: old instances may retain outdated code, which can cause duplicate buttons. You must completely close old windows.

Usage

  1. Open any file in the DSH sidebar.
  2. In the corresponding editor tab toolbar, you will see a button with a folder icon (with a magnifying glass).
  3. Click the button. The system File Explorer will open and locate the folder containing the file, with the file selected.

Notes

  • System Limitation: Currently, only Windows is supported.
  • Dependency Version: Requires dsh-better-sidebar v0.14+. This plugin injects buttons by manipulating the DOM. If an upgrade to better-sidebar changes the DOM structure, the plugin may stop working.
  • Risk Warning: The author has not conducted large-scale testing. Installation and use carry some risk. Please assess this yourself.
  • Leftover Old Instances: If buttons appear misaligned or duplicated, be sure to perform the “close old windows” step described in the installation instructions.

Conclusion

With a very small footprint and a direct operating model, this plugin improves the experience of managing file paths in the DSH Web environment. If you mainly work on Windows and have some familiarity with the DOM structure of better-sidebar, this is a practical tool worth trying.
