During the development and debugging of DeepSeek Harness (DSH), adjusting an Agent’s Persona often requires restarting the process or reloading configuration. This not only interrupts the current session but may also disrupt the model-side KV-cache, reducing inference efficiency. The dsh-openclaw-persona plugin borrows the mature OpenClaw paradigm, introduces this five-file Persona definition system into DSH, and provides a Web GUI editor that supports immediate application after changes.
Plugin Positioning¶
This plugin is maintained by user lynsucceed and belongs to the “playful role customization” category. It allows users to reuse the five files SOUL/IDENTITY/USER/MEMORY/TOOLS.md as the Agent definition for DSH, modify them directly through the sidebar or disk files, and apply the changes immediately in the next message.
Core Features¶
- Instant Application: After modifying the configuration, there is no need to restart DSH; the new settings are applied when the next message is sent.
- Five-File Layered Definition: Uses the standard OpenClaw structure, including behavioral guidelines (SOUL), identity settings (IDENTITY), user profile (USER), long-term memory (MEMORY), and tool notes (TOOLS).
- Web GUI Editor: Provides a tabbed interface in the sidebar for directly editing Markdown files; saved content is written to disk.
- mtime Cache: Detects changes using file modification time (mtime), resends only when a file changes, and keeps the KV-cache stable.
- Two-Level Fallback Mechanism: Prioritizes project-level configuration (
<project_directory>/.dsh/persona/*.md); if not found, falls back to global configuration (~/.dsh/persona/*.md). - Plug and Play: After installation, the sidebar automatically shows a “Custom Persona” entry.
Installation¶
This plugin supports only the Web Profile.
dsh plugin --profile web add @lynsucceed/dsh-openclaw-persona
After installation, restart the DSH Web service.
Typical Usage¶
- Edit in the Web UI: After restarting, click the “Custom Persona” entry in the sidebar. Switch between tabs to edit the five Markdown files (such as SOUL.md or IDENTITY.md). Click “Save”, then send the next message; the Agent will respond according to the newly configured Persona.
- Edit Files: You can also directly edit the configuration files on disk. Global configuration is located at
~/.dsh/persona/*.md, and project-level configuration is located at<project_directory>/.dsh/persona/*.md.
Notes¶
- Fault Tolerance: Any file can be left empty or deleted; missing parts are silently skipped and will not cause errors.
- Cache Strategy: If a file has not been modified, the cached text is reused; if a file is modified, the change takes effect immediately.
- Override Rule: The
.dsh/persona/directory under a project overrides files with the same names in the global~/.dsh/persona/. - First Launch: On first run, sample templates are written; existing user edits are not overwritten.
Summary¶
dsh-openclaw-persona provides a low-intrusion, high-efficiency way to manage DSH Agent settings. It combines the flexibility of the file system with the convenience of the Web UI, and is especially suitable for scenarios requiring frequent role-style adjustments or experimental development.
