Introduction¶
Managing global context or system prompts in DeepSeek Harness (DSH) typically requires manually entering them in every message or maintaining a local Markdown file. The dsh-custom-instructions plugin provides a Codex-style entry point for editing global instructions, allowing you to directly modify the effective file through a GUI, without repeatedly entering the same background information or instructions in every conversation.
Plugin Overview¶
- Name: dsh-custom-instructions
- Maintainer: lyke-61
- Function: Provides a global instructions editor panel that writes instructions to
~/.dsh/AGENTS.md, which is read by DSH’s built-in mechanism and applied to all sessions. - License: MIT
Core Features¶
- Codex-Style Editing: Edit instructions in the “Custom Instructions” section of the settings panel; content is saved directly to
~/.dsh/AGENTS.md. - Global Effect: Based on DSH’s built-in
dsh-agent-instructionsmechanism, the configuration applies to all sessions and all models on the current machine. - WYSIWYG: Use a monospace font editor to preview file content in real time; save operations immediately report success or failure.
- Zero Build: The client bundle is hand-written code, and the host is pure Node ESM, requiring no build steps.
Installation and Enablement¶
Install the plugin into the web profile using the official CLI:
dsh plugin --profile web add github:lyke-61/dsh-custom-instructions
After installation, restart the dsh web process to load the plugin layer.
Usage¶
- Open DSH settings and go to the General page.
- Find the Custom Instructions panel below “Permissions”.
- Write or paste instruction content in the editor and click Save.
- When It Takes Effect:
- New Sessions: A new conversation automatically reads the global instructions at the first message.
- Current Session: The current session updates the instruction content after the next file operation (such as read, write, or edit).
Compatibility and Dependencies¶
- DeepSeek Harness Version: 0.1.0-rc.6 (web profile)
- Required Mechanism: It must rely on DSH’s built-in
dsh-agent-instructionsmechanism. The standard preset includes this mechanism by default; if a profile disablesdsh-agent-instructions, instructions will not be injected.
Summary¶
dsh-custom-instructions is a lightweight global instruction management tool. It replaces manual file maintenance or repeated instruction entry through a simple settings panel operation, making it suitable for scenarios that require consistent behavioral rules across multiple sessions or models.
