Preface

The core design philosophy of DeepSeek Harness (DSH) is “everything is a plugin.” When developing or debugging agents, understanding the effective prompts, injected context, and variable and tool configurations active in the current session is a key step in troubleshooting. dsh-system-prompt is a read-only plugin provided for this purpose. It does not mutate runtime state, and instead focuses on combining static and dynamic inspection of the prompt in an active session.

Plugin Role

dsh-system-prompt is a read-only DeepSeek Harness plugin. Its core responsibility is session-scoped prompt inspection. The plugin is intended to meet the need to view the “effective prompt” at runtime, by providing a browser interface and a lightweight API so that developers can intuitively inspect the current session’s prompt structure.

Core Features

The plugin provides two primary browser interaction interfaces:

  1. Conversation Inspection Tab (conversation.view): Priority is 30. This is a session inspection tab used to display the various parts of the prompt, runtime context, variables, tools, and messages provided by producers.
  2. Sections Detail Tab: Displayed side by side with the system prompt tab in ui-trajectory. Because the upstream trajectory package does not expose a detail tab slot, the plugin implements this feature via a bounded DOM bridge.

Installation

Install it using the official command:

dsh plugin --profile web add github:elonnzhang/dsh-system-prompt

Usage and Development

After installation, the repository already includes the packaged lib/ directory, so direct usage does not require running the build script.

For local source development or testing, run the build first:

npm run build

Check it out locally, link it to the Harness web profile, and then start the service for testing:

pnpm dsh plugin --profile web add link:/Users/elon/code-space/GitHub/dsh-system-prompt
pnpm dsh web --no-open --port 3080

Visit http://127.0.0.1:3080 to view the conversation inspection view as well as the trajectory System Prompt / Tools / Sections detail flow.

Technical Details

  • Data Serialization: The plugin only exposes the session object at the /dsh-system-prompt endpoint and returns only a JSON projection. It does not serialize live Context, Agent, Session, service, or Cordis objects.
  • Ownership Scope: Ownership of prompts, context, variables, and tools is reported within the global / preset / agent scope.
  • Development Requirement: Local development requires explicitly running npm run build.

Summary

The plugin reduces the cost of gathering information when debugging agents by providing immediate session prompt inspection and detail viewing capabilities.
