In the DeepSeek Harness (DSH) environment, when running agents or performing complex debugging, the model may remain in a background thinking or output state for a long time, or get stuck while waiting for approval, questions, or other steps. If the operator switches browser tabs at that moment, it is easy to miss critical message events. The dsh-notify plugin uses the browser’s native notification mechanism to send desktop reminders when the model starts output, completes output, or needs your intervention, helping you quickly return your attention to the workflow.
Core Features¶
This plugin mainly provides the following capabilities:
- Node reminders: Notify when the model starts a new round of output; notify when the entire round of output is complete.
- Interaction alerts: Notify when the session requires your handling, including:
- Permission approvals: Display the pending command (such as
bash) and the reason (such as危险). - Questions: Display the original question text directly (overlong content will be truncated and the quantity will be indicated).
- Plan reviews: Prompt you to open the session for review.
- Permission approvals: Display the pending command (such as
- Interaction: Clicking a notification can focus the page and open the corresponding session.
- Fine-grained control: Provides 5 independent switches and supports a bilingual Chinese/English interface. By default, “remind only when the page is not visible” is enabled, so you are not disturbed when you are already looking at the page.
- Multi-tab optimization: Uses the Web Locks API to deduplicate notifications across multiple tabs, preventing the same type of notification from piling up repeatedly.
Installation and Enablement¶
Prerequisites: dsh is already installed locally (it can be started with npx @deepseek-ai/dsh web), and the network can access GitHub.
Run the following command to install:
dsh plugin --profile web add github:fxomomi/dsh-notify
Note: If you are using pnpm ≥ 10, build scripts for git dependencies are refused by default, so the first add may report an error. Follow the prompt from dsh, copy the printed package key (such as dsh-notify) into the allowBuilds configuration in the profile’s pnpm-workspace.yaml file, and then run add again.
After installation is complete, restart the dsh web process and refresh the page in the browser.
Configuration and Usage¶
- Open the DSH browser interface and go to “Settings → Notifications”.
- Enable the corresponding switches based on your needs (enable notifications, start output, completion, needs handling, etc.).
- Click “Request notification permission” and allow it.
Note: Notification permission is independent for each browser. If you switch browsers or machines, you need to grant permission again.
Technical Details and Compatibility¶
- Configuration storage: Due to configuration namespace limitations in dsh 0.1.0-rc.6, reading and writing third-party plugin settings namespaces returns
settings-not-exposed. Therefore, the plugin stores its configuration in the browser’slocalStorage, rather than in dsh’s settings system. - Compatibility requirements: The browser must support the Notification API and Web Locks. Modern versions of Chrome / Edge / Firefox are all compatible. Plugin development and verification are based on dsh
0.1.0-rc.6.
Summary¶
dsh-notify solves the problem of missed messages in the DSH environment by using browser desktop notifications. It is suitable for developers who need to run agents for long periods or frequently switch between multiple tasks. For more details, see the plugin directory or the GitHub repository.
