Problem

Graduate seminars require turning a research paper into a 15–20 minute presentation that is logically clear, easy for supervisors to critique, and suitable for class discussion. Manual slides often suffer from scattered structure, missing cover information, inconsistent template styling, weak presentation of quantitative results, and underdeveloped qualitative evidence. This skill targets communication and journalism graduate contexts: it takes a paper PDF as input and produces a consistent PPTX for literature reports, group meetings, and course assignments.

How It Works

It first collects key constraints in small batches, such as presentation length, audience, template PPTX, presenter name, and date, avoiding premature generation of uncustomizable pages. It then uses pymupdf to extract the full paper text and identify the title, authors, journal, DOI, research background, gap, theoretical framework, methodology, key findings, discussion, limitations, and referenced figures or tables.
During generation, it uses python-pptx helpers to assemble 17–20 slides, typically including:
- Cover: preserve the template page or generate the title, presenter, and date
- Paper info: journal, DOI, authors, and method summary
- Background and theory: card-based presentation of phenomenon, gap, context, and contribution
- Methodology and findings: quantitative papers emphasize Beta coefficients, significance markers, and control variables; qualitative papers emphasize cases, coding, and theoretical development
- Critical reflection: examine theoretical operationalization, methodological limits, and interpretive boundaries

The visual system uses #5A97D0 titles, #333333 body text, card color mappings, and a no-animation rule, making the deck suitable for static projection.

Boundaries

This skill is well suited for producing a first draft of an academic presentation, but it does not replace the researcher’s judgment about the paper’s contribution, evidence quality, or critical interpretation. If the template cover lacks the presenter name or date, those fields should be completed manually in PowerPoint. If the PDF has poor text-layer quality, extraction of titles, methods, or findings may be incomplete, so human review is still required after generation.
