About this skill

What It Solves

Conversations often produce useful ideas, citations, and task clues, but manual notes interrupt the flow and are hard to retrieve later. FlowNote turns recording, searching, and organizing into natural language interactions, making note-taking feel like part of the workflow rather than a separate entry point.

How It Works

It runs on Markdown files, index.json, and helper scripts. Core capabilities include:
- Capture: recognizes cues like “note this” or “save this idea”, then extracts a title, tags, source, and type such as idea, topic, or draft.
- Search: supports keyword, tag, and time modes, returning relevant notes and adding contextual follow-ups.
- Organize: turns fragmented notes into topic cards, timelines, or article drafts, for example under topics/{theme}.md.
- Linking: infers relationships from shared tags, wiki-link references, similar topics, and nearby timestamps.
Before saving, it aligns output with references/format-spec.md; after saving, it updates the index.

Boundaries

It fits personal knowledge accumulation, meeting insights, and technical drafts, but is not a replacement for a full document library or multi-user system. If the notes library is not initialized, run scripts/init_notes.py first; note deletion should keep the index in sync, otherwise search and stats can become unreliable.

Use Cases

  • Capture useful points from technical discussions, then auto-add tags, sources, and note types.
  • Review a previously noted topic by searching related notes with keywords, tags, or time ranges.
  • Merge scattered ideas into a topic card or article draft for later writing and editing.
  • Find tag, reference, time, and semantic links between existing notes to strengthen the index.

Best For

  • Engineers who need to quickly capture ideas, citations, and follow-ups during conversations.
  • Writers who accumulate material from meetings, reading, and discussions, then organize it into drafts by topic.
  • Independent consultants who want to maintain a personal note library through natural language instead of manual folders.
  • Personal knowledge managers who need to search past notes and maintain tags and relationships.
