About this skill

Problem to Solve

The PM pillar in WCM is not just fixing equipment. It needs to move professional maintenance from reactive CM to time-based TBM, then toward condition-based CBM, with clear stage goals, tool use, and evidence that maintenance engineers, PM coordinators, and equipment supervisors can act on. This skill is aimed at equipment centers, maintenance departments, and multi-site equipment performance teams that need to execute, improve, replicate, and evaluate PM work, rather than replacing WSPM architecture design or AM autonomous maintenance.

How It Works

  • Four-stage roadmap: Phase A builds baselines, Phase B establishes preventive maintenance, Phase C deepens condition-based maintenance and root-cause improvement, and Phase D solidifies mechanisms for continuous optimization, with acceptance gates and common blockers.
  • Tool-chain guidance: Covers PM-1 MTBF/MTTR, PM-2 OEE, PM-3 preventive maintenance planning, PM-4 failure analysis, and PM-5 spare-parts management, including formulas, steps, outputs, and common pitfalls.
  • Decision and assessment support: Helps score candidate equipment or lines with a six-dimension model, evaluate maturity using the SKILL dimensions, and prepare dashboards or cross-site comparisons that expose weak areas and action items.
  • Boundary management: Clarifies that AM handles daily cleaning, inspection, lubrication, and contamination control, while PM owns preventive planning, failure diagnosis, maintenance improvement, and spare-parts technical management; safety-critical tasks such as LOTO, confined spaces, and hazardous materials require EHS review first.

Where It Applies Best

Use it for coaching maintenance teams, reviewing PM plans, organizing templates, and running stage reviews. It is not a substitute for full nine-pillar WSPM architecture, plant-wide SOP coverage diagnosis, or ISO certification delivery. If baseline data such as MTBF, OEE, failure counts, or repair hours are missing, the output marks the gap instead of inventing metrics.

Use Cases

  • Maintenance engineers standardize repeat-failure root-cause analysis and track corrective actions.
  • Equipment supervisors build Phase B preventive maintenance plans from MTBF, MTTR, and OEE baselines.
  • PM coordinators select benchmark equipment using a six-dimension scoring model and ranking output.
  • Multi-site managers prepare PM meeting dashboards to compare MTBF trends and maturity gaps.

Best For

  • Maintenance engineers: need standardized single-equipment root-cause analysis and action tracking.
  • PM coordinators: need PM-1 to PM-5 tool sheets, templates, and phase acceptance criteria.
  • Equipment supervisors: need TBM/CBM strategy and ABC/XYZ spare-parts planning for critical assets.
  • Multi-site equipment performance managers: need cross-site MTBF, OEE comparison and gap identification.
