About this skill

Problem

When organizing a topic, meeting notes, or project checklist into a mind map, handwritten PlantUML can fail because of level markers, code fence language, multiline nodes, and direction keywords. This skill turns those conventions into a set of checkable rules, reducing cases where the text looks right but the diagram does not render.

How it works

It expects the final output to be a plantuml or puml code block wrapped in @startmindmap and @endmindmap. The main capabilities include:
- Hierarchy control: use *, **, and *** for root and nested nodes, or +/- for branches on either side
- Layout direction: adjust the reading path with top to bottom direction, right to left direction, and left side
- Node content: support multiline blocks with :line one\nline two;, quick colors with [#hex], and PlantUML Creole rich text
- Reusable styling: define style classes and format depth(1), node, and arrow for consistent fonts, colors, and connectors

Limits

It targets renderable PlantUML mind maps, not freeform diagram editors or complex graphic layouts. If level counts, semicolons, color formats, or stereotype class names are wrong, the diagram may not display or styles may not apply. Before sharing, check the code block language, @startmindmap structure, and whether each block node is closed.

Use Cases

  • Turn goals, scope, and risks in a product requirement doc into a PlantUML mind map for a document.
  • Split meeting notes into opportunities, risks, and next actions, using left side for a side-by-side layout.
  • Build a study outline with nested nodes, multiline bullet blocks using :...;, and highlight key nodes with #hex.
  • Create a top-to-bottom project task tree and mark completed, active, and blocked items with status colors.

Best For

  • Product managers who maintain requirement docs and need to turn goals, scope, and risks into shareable diagrams.
  • Consultants who summarize meeting outcomes and need a side-by-side opportunities-versus-risks mind map.
  • Instructors who build learning paths or training materials and need hierarchy plus colors to highlight priorities.
  • Engineers who track project status and need task breakdown and blocking risks in a report-ready mind map.
