About this skill

Problem

Classical Chinese poetry study often stalls at mechanical recitation. Students may be able to read a line but fail to write it, use it in context, or identify the author, source, and key vocabulary. This skill turns practice into a repeatable assessment loop: active recall, contextual usage, and error tracking are used to expose weak poems, phrases, and appreciation gaps.

How It Works

The skill adjusts difficulty and scope by grade level, theme, and selected poem list. It defaults to the standard textbook range in Chinese, but can follow a user-specified textbook version or custom poem list. Core question types include:
- Sentence completion: complete the missing upper or lower line.
- Title and author: identify the poem, poet, and context.
- Word and phrase meaning: focus on key characters, phonetic loans, and historical meanings.
- Appreciation: analyze imagery, technique, and emotion.
- Contextual usage: select or write the best line for a given situation.
- Chain challenge: practice with a final character or theme.

The default mode is a mixed quiz with customizable length. After each answer, it gives feedback for correct, incorrect, or partially correct responses. When the user says hint or I don't remember, it provides staged cues such as the first character, author, or theme without revealing the answer directly. Incorrect items are added to a session error notebook, and a summary report is produced at the end.

Boundaries And Notes

This skill is for Chinese poetry learning and exam review, from primary school through university or adult learners. It asks for grade when unknown, for example I am a junior high student or college entrance exam difficulty. It supports pinyin notes for polyphonic or rare characters, but it does not replace a teacher's judgment on a specific exam syllabus or local textbook edition.

Use Cases

  • A Chinese teacher prepares a midterm quiz with sentence completion, word meaning, and appreciation questions from the middle school textbook list.
  • A parent reviews with a child using the primary upper-grade poems, generating 5 to 10 recall questions and an error notebook.
  • A student practices parting-theme poems by asking for contextual usage and appreciation questions with staged hints, then reviews the session error notebook.
  • A self-learner supplies a custom poem list and requests a mixed quiz with a post-round report to identify weak lines and key vocabulary.

Best For

  • A middle school Chinese teacher who needs tiered quizzes based on the required middle school poem list
  • A parent helping a primary school student review textbook poetry and track repeated errors
  • A high school student preparing for the Chinese exam who needs appreciation and vocabulary drills
  • A department lead who needs a consistent question set for class poetry recitation tasks
