About this skill

Problem

Scheduling is less about producing a spreadsheet than about fitting teachers, classes, rooms, weekly hour caps, and elective constraints into one weekly grid without conflicts. Common hard conflicts include:
- Teacher clashes: one teacher is assigned to two classes in the same period;
- Room contention: one room is used by two classes in the same period;
- Duplicate class periods: one class has two subjects in the same period;
- Hour overloads: a teacher or class exceeds the weekly hour limit.
Manual re-planning can easily introduce new consecutive-class, room, or workload issues.

How It Works

Smart Timetable Assistant organizes the input into a resource list, class-hour requirements, and hard/soft constraints, then generates (class, subject, teacher, room) assignments for each period slot.
- It schedules scarce resources first, such as lab classes and elective classes;
- then fills ordinary classes while respecting teacher preferences, consecutive-class limits, and core-subject distribution;
- it runs T1 through T4 scans and emits a conflict report;
- it suggests low-cost fixes such as swapping periods, changing rooms, staggering lab sessions, or assigning the hour to a substitute teacher, preferring the option with the smallest affected scope.
The final output is suitable for import or printing.

Scope

Use it for semester scheduling, re-scheduling after teacher changes, and elective-class scheduling. It is not intended for exam proctoring or temporary club events. If the input lacks room capacity, hour caps, or elective restrictions, conflict checking is limited to the supplied constraints; unresolved items still need manual review.

Use Cases

  • Before a new semester, input weekly hours, teachers, and room capacity to draft a conflict-free class timetable.
  • After a teacher change or hour shift, reschedule affected classes while avoiding teacher clashes and room conflicts.
  • After elective scheduling, apply subject grouping and forbidden periods to output a printable timetable and conflict report.
  • When a teacher has two classes in one period, locate the T1 conflict and propose a low-cost swap, room change, or substitute fix.

Best For

  • Academic affairs directors who need to turn hour caps, teacher rosters, and room constraints into an official timetable
  • Grade leaders who must resolve teacher clashes and produce a printable schedule
  • Senior school teachers coordinating elective scheduling and needing a conflict report
  • Timetable coordinators who need to reschedule classes after teacher changes and suggest low-cost fixes
