About this skill

Problem

Engineers and managers often face negotiation, persuasion, team conflict, or crisis situations without a practical framework to break down interests, intent, and timing. The Wisdom of Guiguzi avoids abstract philosophy and converts principles such as opening/closing, probing, rapport, cracks, persuasion, alignment, and reading intent into analyzable moves.

How It Works

The skill starts from the scenario and separates goals, counterpart needs, pressure, and available leverage, then maps tactics to the situation:
- Opening/Closing: decide when to push, when to observe, and when to stop.
- Probing and Reading Intent: infer emotions, hidden needs, and testable boundaries.
- Cracks: identify interest gaps, conflicts, or exploitable weaknesses.
- Persuasion and Control: use recognition, promises, and conditional actions to move outcomes.
- Alignment and Counter-alignment: weigh joining, opposing, retreating, or switching alliances.
It ends with strategy suggestions, dialogue steps, and anti-pattern checks to prevent manipulation.

Boundaries

Use it for negotiation, persuasion, team management, competitive analysis, and other strategic problems. It is not a substitute for factual search, code debugging, legal or medical advice, and it should not support deception, coercion, or strategic manipulation in intimate relationships. The skill assumes the objective is legitimate and leaves final judgment to the user.

Use Cases

  • When renewing a vendor contract, break down the counterparty’s price floor, hidden clauses, and risk leverage.
  • Before pitching to leadership, design benefit points, recognition language, and clear conditions to advance the proposal.
  • When two engineers conflict over a technical path and delay slips, reframe the issue using intent, cracks, and alignment.
  • When rival partners pressure you, assess alliance, confrontation, or exit costs using probing and counter-alignment.

Best For

  • Sales leads who need to design quarterly pricing strategy and fallback positions in business negotiations.
  • Product managers who must persuade multiple departments and secure budget approval from leadership.
  • Engineering managers who handle technical-route conflicts and declining team collaboration.
  • Business owners who need to find weak points in a competitor alliance during strategy reviews.
