In Downloads, desktop, or temporary project folders, loose files often pile up by download order instead of purpose. Manual cleanup requires recognizing extensions such as .pdf, .png, .py, and .zip, then checking whether target category folders already contain conflicting names. This skill is built for the explicit task of classifying files in a specified folder by extension and moving them into meaningful subdirectories, without touching deeper directory structures.

How it works and where it stops

The skill first confirms the target folder, scans the folder contents, counts file types, and generates a sorting plan. Common categories include documents, images, code, archives, video, audio, and installers; custom categories can also be specified. After the plan is shown and confirmed, it creates category subdirectories, moves files, and reports the final result.

• Root-level only: It does not recurse into subdirectories, preserving existing folder structures.
• No overwriting: If a same-named file already exists in the destination category, the move is skipped and flagged.
• Extension-based routing: It relies on file extensions, which fits folders with clear file types and conventional naming.
• Conservative error handling: Missing paths, permission issues, or locked files are reported, skipped, or logged rather than forcibly processed.

It is suitable as a lightweight local-folder cleanup step, not as a full-disk scanner, content analyzer, batch renamer, or cross-directory migration tool.
