About this skill

Problem It Solves

Bulk resume screening usually fails less because of unreadable resumes and more because information is scattered across PDF, Word, TXT, and Markdown files. Candidate wording varies, JD focus changes, and manual page-flipping or keyword search can miss meaningful differences in skill fit, industry background, and stability.

How It Works

hr-resume-scorer splits the workflow into parsing, scoring, matching, and reporting:

  • File parsing: extracts candidate basics, project experience, skill tags, and work timelines from text-based resumes.
  • Weighted scoring: scores education, experience, skill match, industry match, and stability, with skill match weighted highest to highlight role-relevant gaps.
  • JD matching: compares the candidate against the job description and assigns a fit level from S to E.
  • Batch output: ranks multiple resumes and exports Excel, JSON, or Markdown reports for review, comparison, and handoff.

Boundaries and Caveats

It is best used as an early-screening aid, not a replacement for background checks or final hiring decisions. Provide a specific, complete JD; avoid scanned PDF files and legacy .doc files; keep individual files under 10MB and batch size under 100MB; and still verify timelines, description granularity, and experience plausibility for strong candidates.

Use Cases

  • Recruiters receive many PDF/Word resumes and need JD-based ranking plus an Excel shortlist.
  • Tech leads compare TXT/Markdown resumes against role requirements to flag skill gaps and low scorers.
  • HR staff assess one candidate and review education, experience, industry fit, and stability scores.
  • Recruiting assistants batch-process resume directories and generate JSON reports for downstream ATS workflows.

Best For

  • Tech leads screening engineering candidates who need a quick view of JD skill gaps.
  • Recruiters handling many resumes weekly who need ranked scores and Excel exports.
  • Recruiting operations connecting ATS workflows who need JSON or Markdown results.
  • HR specialists reviewing timelines and risk signals around experience and stability.
