About this skill
Problem
Spoken videos often contain audible breaths, long pauses, and awkward breaks. This skill targets the “cut the breath” use case: it is not meant for full video editing, but for removing silent, breath, or pause segments by rule so the pacing feels tighter.
How It Works
It calls the mcp.breathCutter capability through the installed whaleclip-cli or the WhaleClip desktop CLI. A typical workflow checks that the command is enabled, verifies login and VIP status, runs the cutting job, and parses the single-line JSON from stdout. Key parameters include:
--input: required input video--outputDir: output directory; default naming often uses*_breath--threshold: silence threshold, default-20 dB, commonly tuned between-15and-30--padding: milliseconds preserved around silence, default30 ms--reverse: whentrue, it preserves silence segments instead of removing them
On success, check ok === true and the output path; failures usually point to an unopened command, expired login, missing VIP, or an unknown command.
Boundaries
The skill is limited to cutting pauses and breaths. It does not handle speed changes, color grading, BGM, or smart sound effects. It depends on WhaleClip desktop, a valid login, and VIP access, and it should not expose tokens, stderr logs, internal fields, or interface details to users.
Use Cases
- Before publishing talking-head videos, remove breaths and long pauses using threshold values.
- When editing tutorial explainers, cut speaking gaps by silence threshold for tighter pacing.
- When shortening spoken short videos, use padding to keep boundaries while removing pauses.
- When repurposing live clips, remove silent segments from a single spoken take to reduce awkward pauses.
Best For
- Talking-head video editors who want to clean breaths and pauses before publishing.
- Live-clip editors who need to remove awkward pauses from finished explainers.
- Automation engineers using WhaleClip CLI who need stable output paths from breath-cutting jobs.
- Instructors recording course videos who want to compress silent gaps for easier re-editing.
