About this skill

Problem

When video or audio needs to be localized, translating speech, aligning subtitles, uploading dubbed material, and exporting tasks can become scattered manual steps. This skill connects VMEG to MCP-capable IDEs or coding agents so vmeg_* tools are available during conversation, reducing the need to chase setup docs or assemble API calls by hand.

How It Works

The skill connects through VMEG Remote MCP and prioritizes server-provided MCP instructions. Authentication supports two paths:
- OAuth: recommended for individual users, with browser login to VMEG and project selection;
- API Key: recommended for scripts or automation, using Authorization: Bearer vmeg_sk_xxx.

Key steps usually include:
- detecting the current IDE, such as Cursor, Claude Code, Windsurf, or Codex;
- reading only the matching setup-*.md, setup-common.md, and oauth.md files;
- for local media, using the provided absolute path and computing MD5;
- calling vmeg_initiate_material_upload, uploading through the presigned URL, then calling vmeg_complete_material_upload;
- using the returned materialId to create translation, subtitle, dubbing, or export tasks.

Boundaries and Notes

It assumes Remote MCP is already configured and vmeg_* tools are callable. If they are unavailable, do not guess business parameters; check the current IDE’s MCP settings and authentication through the routed setup docs. For day-to-day work, follow MCP instructions first; read helper docs only when asking about tool availability, installation, or failures. IDE menus and shortcuts should be verified against current IDE documentation rather than relying on hardcoded paths in the skill.

Use Cases

  • A video localization team translates a Chinese explainer video into English and generates subtitles using VMEG tasks, then exports the result.
  • A course operations owner uploads a local recorded audio file in Cursor and uses VMEG to upload the material and create a dubbing task.
  • A multilingual team translates a product demo video into Japanese and updates subtitles by calling VMEG tools inside the IDE.
  • An automation script connects to VMEG Remote MCP with an API Key and submits batch translation, subtitle, or export tasks.

Best For

  • Engineers configuring MCP in Cursor or Claude Code who need VMEG video/audio translation tools available in their IDE.
  • Localization operators handling video overseas who need to translate Chinese videos into English or Japanese and generate subtitles or dubbed output.
  • Backend engineers writing automation scripts who need to call VMEG Remote MCP with an API Key to upload materials and create tasks.
  • Coding-agent users working with local media who need to complete VMEG connection and troubleshooting based on the current IDE routing.
