About this skill

Problem

When generating passbooks, CAPTCHAs, badges, or compound icons, teams often need to combine existing SVG symbols into new vector graphics. Manually editing path coordinates and canvas sizes is error-prone, and batch combinations are hard to preview. svg-composer targets this workflow by accepting text or external SVG symbols and producing downloadable .svg output.

How it works

  • Built-in charset: Font Awesome Free symbols for 0-9 and A-Z; lowercase input is normalized to uppercase, with 36 characters only.
  • Four composition modes: sequential, full permutation, Cartesian product, and length-limited composition; Cartesian mode is bounded by at most 5 input characters and length 4.
  • Custom symbols: loads user-provided .svg files that contain valid path data.
  • Batch preview: can call generate_preview_html() to generate an inline preview page without a server.

The workflow is to input text, select a mode and direction, set black/white fill and horizontal/vertical layout, then generate an SVG file; if the total content exceeds the canvas, it scales proportionally.

Boundaries

  • Outputs SVG only; no PNG/JPG export.
  • Suited for symbol composition, not arbitrary vector drawing or wireframes.
  • Requires Python 3.7+ and the svgpathtools dependency.

Use Cases

  • Design a passbook page by permuting 0-9 characters into one SVG file.
  • Compose multiple external SVG icons horizontally into a badge and preview it in HTML.
  • Generate CAPTCHA candidate SVGs from A-Z and digits using length-limited Cartesian products.
  • Create vertical black-and-white SVGs from the built-in charset for offline print materials.

Best For

  • Visual designers building CAPTCHAs or passbooks who need character permutations and length-limited SVG output.
  • Front-end engineers developing SVG icon components who want to combine external SVG symbols into one composite icon.
  • Product managers preparing badges or logo assets who need built-in characters composed sequentially or by Cartesian product.
  • Python engineers maintaining batch graphics scripts who need SVG file output and HTML preview generation.
