About this skill
Problem
When reading foreign-language material on a desktop, repeatedly switching windows and copying text breaks the reading flow. Translation Window provides a lightweight always-on-top entry point that turns English or Japanese text into Simplified Chinese, reducing the need to copy, open a translator, paste, and copy again. It keeps your focus on the current page instead of bouncing between browser tabs.
How It Works and Limits
It uses the Tongyi Qianwen model for translation, and the main interactions are:
- Floating window: stays on top, useful while reading documents.
- Language mode: supports English → Simplified Chinese and Japanese → Simplified Chinese, with automatic language-mode detection.
- Shortcuts: Alt+A translates the input box, Alt+Q shows or hides the window, and Esc hides it; the shortcuts work outside the window.
This skill behaves more like a personal desktop utility than a general machine-translation service. It suits quick translation of short snippets from web pages, papers, game text, or chat UI; batch translation, glossary control, audio transcription, or API integration would require additional tooling.
Use Cases
- When staying on an English paper page, translate the input-box passage into Chinese via a shortcut.
- When reading Japanese game guides, check glossary terms and short snippets in the top window.
- When handling English chat messages, quickly translate the reply draft in the input box.
- When writing bilingual teaching material, check Japanese example sentences into Simplified Chinese line by line.
Best For
- Engineers reading English technical docs who want to see Chinese meanings without leaving the current page
- Localization editors organizing short Japanese game or tutorial text who need quick term comprehension
- Students preparing for language exams who need on-demand desktop explanations for English or Japanese sentences
- Teachers making bilingual course material who want to check Chinese expressions for Japanese example sentences
