About this skill

Problem

When a developer or team maintains many CNB repositories, opening each repo to check recent commits, branches, and commit history is time-consuming and easy to miss. Repository audits, bulk status checks, and deciding which repos are active need a repeatable workflow that produces structured results.

How It Works

The toolkit uses CNB API endpoints for batch inspection:
- GET /user/repos to list repositories;
- GET /{repo}/-/git/branches and GET /{repo}/-/git/commits to read branch and commit state;
- classify repos as active, inactive, or stale based on last commit time, branch info, and commit records;
- output a readable report for follow-up.

It requires a valid CNB_TOKEN and sends Authorization: Bearer {CNB_TOKEN}. It fits periodic repo audits, multi-repo status inventory, and turning Git status into a common conclusion.

Boundaries

It focuses on CNB Git status checks and does not replace code review, merge request handling, or CI/CD pipelines. If access is limited, API responses are incomplete, or branch policy is complex, human judgment and repo-specific configuration are still required.

Use Cases

  • A maintainer audits multiple CNB repos weekly to see which have stale last commits.
  • A team inherits CNB repos and reads branches plus commit history to flag inactive projects.
  • Ops checks user-visible repos and compiles active, inactive, and stale statuses.
  • Before bulk Git state review, a platform engineer confirms branch and recent commit signals.

Best For

  • Maintainers of many CNB repos: need periodic checks of last commits and branch status.
  • Platform ops engineers: need to aggregate scattered repo Git activity into follow-up lists.
  • Engineers inheriting legacy projects: need to tell which repos are still maintained or stalled.
  • Code asset inventory owners: need batch views of repo lists, branches, and commit records.
