Problem

Cross-cloud data migration is hard because the risk is not just copying bytes, but product mapping, compatibility, downtime windows, and rollback. It commonly covers databases, object storage, big data platforms, and data lakes moving between AWS, Azure, GCP, Alibaba Cloud, Huawei Cloud, and Tencent Cloud.

How It Works

The skill generates an architect-style migration plan:

Input parsing: identify source vendor, source product, target vendor, data volume, downtime window, OLTP / OLAP scenarios, and compliance requirements.
Product mapping: if the target product is known, check version, feature, performance, and capability gaps; if not, recommend options by feature parity, cost, ecosystem fit, and migration complexity.
Strategy selection: compare offline, online, dual-write, and CDC incremental sync, then assess downtime and complexity.
Tool selection: prefer cloud-native tools, then open source tools, and produce a tool inventory.
Plan output: include product recommendations, assessment, POC design, implementation steps, risk analysis, and rollback plan.

Boundaries

It is useful for pre-migration design, product comparison, POC planning, and risk checklists. It does not replace real network access, account permissions, application changes, SQL compatibility testing, or production rehearsal. Actual rollout still requires source versions, drivers, security constraints, and the business downtime window.
