When you need to turn requirement breakdowns, process designs, project schedules, or knowledge notes into a shareable XMind file, manual node placement can be slow and hard to reproduce. Claude XMind Skills lets the model organize structured content first and then generate a .xmind file in one pass, which is useful for engineers converting documents, PDFs, or meeting conclusions into editable mind maps.

How It Works

The skill centers on a JSON document: path, style, and sheets describe output location, palette, and canvas. Topic nodes support fields such as title, children, notes, href, attachment, linkToTopic, labels, and markers; you can also switch structureClass and shape, for example using ellipses for start/end nodes, diamonds for conditions, and parallelograms for I/O.
Task and planning data can be embedded directly: taskStatus, progress, priority, startDate, dueDate, durationDays, and dependencies are supported. For schedule, timeline, or Gantt content, prefer relative duration plus dependencies so XMind can infer dates automatically.
Flow diagrams can use freePositioning and detachedTopics, combined with straight relationships, to build algorithm or logic diagrams. If a PDF is too large to read directly, extract text with a CLI tool first and then build the map from the extracted text.

Boundaries

The output file must end with .xmind; topic references are generally resolved by title; notes support only limited HTML and do not support tables; concrete parameters and key specs should be placed directly in topic titles rather than hidden in notes. The skill is best for structured mind-map generation, not for interactive editing or advanced visual customization inside XMind.
