About this skill
The Problem
WorkBuddy data is spread across workbuddy.db, skills/, projects/, connectors/, and related state directories. When users switch accounts, devices, or operating systems, raw copies can leave sessions.cwd paths invalid, user_id values inconsistent, and project directory names mismatched with the new cwd encoding. Manual migration can also miss SQLite WAL data, overwrite existing records, or break task-session links.
How It Works
The skill structures migration as a previewable, verifiable workflow:
- Scan current data: Identify databases, Skills, project history, connectors, active sessions, tasks, and team configuration.
- Create a backup: Package core data modules and back up the target database before restore.
- Cross-platform mapping: For macOS to Windows migrations, reconcile paths, user_id, workspaces.path, project directory names, and missing directories.
- Smart restore: Apply INSERT OR IGNORE to database rows, merge Skills by name, merge project directories, and create config files only when absent.
- Post-restore validation: Check sessions.cwd validity, workspace directories, project matching, task-session links, and user_id consistency.
Boundaries and Notes
This skill fits same-machine account changes, cross-device migration, and repair of imported data with incorrect paths. binaries/, app/, and plugins/ are not backed up by default. Restore is non-overwriting by default; use --auto-map for cross-platform migration and run it while WorkBuddy is not actively writing to reduce database conflicts.
