Problem

Desktop, download, and shared folders often mix images, documents, archives, and scripts. Manually creating folders is easy to botch, while moving files directly can feel risky. file_organizer.py targets this local file cleanup task with a GUI workflow.

How It Works

Directory setup: Choose a source directory, with a shortcut for the desktop; target can stay the same or point elsewhere.
Fixed categories: Files are grouped by extension into Images, Documents, Videos, Audio, Archives, Code, Executables, and Other.
Preview safety: Preview mode logs planned actions without creating folders or moving files.
Batch execution: After confirmation, a background thread walks the files, creates category folders, handles duplicates, and writes file_organizer_log.json.

Limits and Notes

This is a local tkinter GUI tool, not a command-line service. It classifies by extension only and does not inspect file contents. The category labels are fixed in the code, and execution is a move rather than a copy, so preview first and verify directory permissions.
