About this skill
Problem Being Addressed
People often repeat the same relationship patterns: feeling anxious when replies are slow, pulling away after getting close, then regretting the distance. These issues are easily reduced to compatibility or effort. This skill reframes the issue as observable attachment-related behavior, helping users identify their own response patterns before discussing concrete communication strategies.
How the Skill Works
It is grounded in Bowlby’s attachment theory and adult attachment research, and focuses on four parts:
- Pattern collection: extracts recurring reactions from descriptions of breakups, delayed replies, conflicts, dependency, and boundary moments.
- Tendency assessment: suggests
secure, anxious, avoidant, ordisorganizedpatterns, without treating them as fixed labels. - Impact analysis: explains how the pattern can trigger partner dynamics, arguments, boundary problems, and safety needs.
- Strategy design: offers self-soothing, effective dependence, secure-base, and boundary-expression tactics for triggered moments.
Boundaries and Cautions
It does not replace psychotherapy, couples counseling, or clinical work, and it should not diagnose partners, personality disorders, or provide deep treatment for disorganized attachment. If abuse or domestic violence is present, safety assessment should come before attachment discussion.
Use Cases
- Use it to map triggers during conflicts over slow replies or unclear boundaries and draft communication scripts.
- Determine whether your pattern is more anxious or avoidant by applying relationship examples and feature explanations.
- Prepare a partner conversation by breaking triggered moments into needs, expression, and actionable improvements.
- Identify recurring pull-away or pursuing patterns and design self-soothing strategies for triggered moments.
Best For
- Adults repeatedly affected by anxious, avoidant, or boundary conflicts in intimate relationships.
- People wanting to understand their attachment tendency and make more intentional relationship choices.
- Relationship coaches turning attachment-pattern examples into communication exercises or curriculum material.
- Singles reviewing past relationship patterns to learn self-soothing and effective dependence.
