About this skill
Problem
When restaurant or business operations show quality issues, process variation, or repeated improvement cycles, teams often set targets by intuition instead of analyzing system causes. This skill frames Deming quality management, PDCA, SPC, and process optimization into one workflow, helping analysts move from background data to root-cause analysis rather than reacting to individual incidents or temporary metrics.
How It Works
The skill follows four steps:
- Define the problem: extract the core question from context, metrics, and constraints
- Match frameworks: load relevant references for core method, application, and advanced techniques
- Prioritize actions: output Top 3 actions with owner, task, and expected timeline
- Ship and review: use the checklists and analysis templates in assets/, and set 2-4 week review checkpoints
Output is data-first: every conclusion should include key numbers where possible, and assumptions must be labeled when data is missing. The structure starts with diagnosis, then priority actions, then fillable templates.
Boundaries
It fits quality management, continuous improvement, process optimization, and systems thinking tasks, especially when baseline operational data exists. It is not a real-time ERP, inventory, or finance system; conclusions can become methodological when data is sparse. For quantitative work, pair it with scripts/ or external data tools for verification.
Use Cases
- When store complaint rates rise, use PDCA to break down service, kitchen, and inventory steps, then output Top 3 fixes.
- During monthly quality review, map metric variation to process nodes and distinguish systemic issues from one-off incidents.
- Design a checklist for a new back-of-house workflow with owners, actions, acceptance criteria, and 2-4 week review points.
- Analyze supply chain delivery anomalies using statistical process control, then provide a fillable improvement template.
Best For
- Store or regional operations managers who need to turn complaints, kitchen timing, and inventory variation into actionable fixes.
- Quality or compliance leads who need PDCA and SPC to analyze quality metrics beyond single-point blame.
- Process improvement consultants who need to break complex operations issues into owners, actions, timelines, and acceptance criteria.
- Data analysts who need to organize metric anomalies, assumptions, and review checkpoints into an executable improvement template.
