About this skill
What It Solves
When reading a dense PDF, the hard part is not finishing it but turning the text into a verifiable structure: exact page references, non-generic argument mapping, concept relationships, and action items that connect back to the source. Deep Academic Book Breakdown targets this workflow. After a user uploads a PDF, it runs a book-breakdown pipeline in quick, standard, or academic depth levels, producing chapter analysis, concept maps, evidence chains, and a final report. It fits academic books, textbooks, and methodology PDFs better than light “three-sentence summary” requests.
How It Works
The design centers on citation integrity and layered breakdown:
- Step 0 PDF preprocessing: parse the PDF while preserving page mapping; if a quote or page cannot be verified, mark it as [quote/page not found] rather than fabricating a citation.
- Steps 1-2 macro and chapter analysis: detect book type, generate a metadata card, and break selected chapters into core claims, methods, and data sources.
- Steps 3-5 academic deep dive: extract core concepts, map concept relationships, compare ambiguous terms, and analyze theoretical foundations, cross-disciplinary links, and limitations.
- Steps 6-7 transfer and reporting: create RIA cards, action lists, and notable quotes, then export a Markdown report. Optional Feishu doc output must follow its heading, table, and list constraints.
With micro_analysis enabled by default and longer quotes preferred, it is useful when the reader needs sentence-level argument analysis.
Boundaries
The output is a structured reading artifact, not a substitute for peer review or final academic judgment. Encrypted, damaged, short, or poorly OCR’d PDFs may stop the run or carry caveats; large files may be processed in batches. Treat the report as a reading scaffold and verify critical quotes against the source.
Use Cases
- When preparing a graduate literature review, split a methods book PDF into chapter claims, evidence pages, and concept maps.
- When building a team knowledge base, extract core concepts, confusing terms, and actionable steps from a textbook.
- Before drafting course notes, close-read selected chapters and annotate quotes, sentence functions, and argument structure.
- When archiving notes in Feishu, write the PDF book-breakdown report in blocks while preserving the page index.
Best For
- Researchers preparing papers or literature reviews: they need chapter claims, exact page citations, and verifiable evidence chains from academic books.
- Strategy or product researchers: they need to turn methodology books into concept maps, use cases, and RIA action lists.
- Instructors building course materials: they need selected textbook chapters turned into term comparisons, examples, actions, and notable quotes.
- Knowledge managers maintaining team libraries: they need PDF book breakdowns saved as Markdown or Feishu documents.
