About this skill
Problem
Long documents often bury the key conclusion inside sections, footnotes, and background material. If the goal is not close reading, but deciding whether the document is worth reading, what the core claims are, and whether the data supports the conclusions, page-by-page reading consumes time. Document Speed Reader fits this pre-reading task: it compresses user-pasted text into scannable summaries and supports follow-up questions.
How it works
The skill follows a structure-first, summary-second, Q&A-third flow:
- Receive content: paste reports, papers, contracts, news, or other text and state your focus.
- Analyze structure: identify sections, core claims, supporting arguments, key numbers, and author stance.
- Generate summaries: produce one-line, paragraph, and detailed versions while preserving important figures and source locations.
- Targeted Q&A: extract information by topic or keyword, explain terms, and compare multiple materials.
The output emphasizes conclusions first and data accuracy, rather than producing a generic overview.
Boundaries
It cannot read files directly, and it is not intended for document editing, format conversion, or full translation. Very long documents should be provided in chunks, and summaries may miss details; legal, medical, or other high-stakes content is for reference only. Check the source text or consult professionals before making key decisions. Redact sensitive information before submission.
Use Cases
- Before reading a long report, extract core conclusions, key figures, and risks
- Paste an English paper or industry study to generate a Chinese summary and outline
- Extract payment, breach, and delivery clauses from contracts, then compare two files
- Pull configuration items, limits, and FAQs from technical docs by keyword
Best For
- Analysts who need to screen industry reports and extract conclusions before review
- Legal assistants who need to flag key clauses and risks in long contracts
- Researchers who need to process multiple studies and prepare discussion materials
- Business engineers who need to track product doc changes and extract key points
