About this skill

Problem

Catering operators often face scattered goals, heavy metrics, broken execution, and shallow reviews: leadership knows revenue, cost, and table turnover need to improve, but stores cannot decompose them; quarterly targets become slogans; weekly meetings report numbers without diagnosing causes; action items lack a single owner and checkpoints. This skill turns goal management from experience-based judgment into a repeatable workflow, helping single stores, chains, and operations teams break business outcomes down by location, time slot, function, menu, and customer journey.

How it works

It uses Drucker-style goal management as the base and runs a five-stage closed loop: define contribution areas and annual or quarterly goals with SMART; decompose them using MECE and OGSM into subgoals, strategies, and measures; create action cards with owner, resources, deadlines, and buffer; track hard and soft metrics through dashboards, MBWA-style floor observation, and fixed weekly meetings; then review with a four-step method and 5 Whys, turning insights into SOPs, resource changes, or next-cycle targets.

Boundaries

It fits management scenarios such as catering operating goals, store labor efficiency, supply-chain cost control, and new-product launch. The output is methodology and templates, not financial modeling, supply-chain system redesign, store IT scheduling, or legal compliance. Automated data collection and performance-penalty rules are outside its scope.

Use Cases

  • Chain operators aligning quarterly targets across stores, breaking annual revenue into store, time-slot, and role-level goals
  • A single store with low lunch turnover needing a decomposed action plan for process optimization with tracking checkpoints
  • Pre-launch operations teams using an OGSM one-pager to align front-of-house, kitchen, and marketing roles
  • Monthly business reviews where data gaps are traced to root causes and locked into next-cycle SOPs

Best For

  • Catering founders/CEOs: turning quarterly business targets into executable store-level action items
  • Chain operations directors: decomposing annual KPIs by region, store, and time slot, with a weekly tracking cadence
  • Single-store managers: lunch turnover falling short, needing a decomposed improvement plan across ordering, serving, and checkout
  • Catering entrepreneurs: pre-launch OGSM planning to align objectives, strategies, measures, and action cards in one pass
