MoonshotAI Kimi Latest is a provider-side alias (for example ~moonshotai/kimi-latest on OpenRouter) that automatically routes each request to the newest Kimi checkpoint in the family, so clients can keep a stable model ID while Moonshot ships upgrades. As of 2026 the alias resolves to Kimi K3, Moonshot's flagship open-weight multimodal agent model with always-on reasoning controlled via reasoning_effort settings (low, high, or max).

The current backend, Kimi K3, is a 2.8 trillion-parameter mixture-of-experts design with about 104 billion activated parameters per token, Kimi Delta Attention and Attention Residuals, and a one-million-token context window.
