Introduction¶
DeepSeek Harness (DSH) is a plugin-based platform for agent development. During use, AI-generated responses are often lengthy, and developers may need to spend time searching long-form text for key conclusions, definitions, or caveats.
This plugin is designed to solve that problem. After an AI response is completed, it makes an additional model call to perform semantic analysis on the text and automatically generates annotations. The annotations are displayed as highlights, helping developers quickly locate important information without interfering with the original streaming output or conversation history.
What It Is¶
Plugin name: dsh-answer-highlighter
Maintainer: Matcha-Eason
Category: Fun Skins
Core logic: After a response is completed, it generates annotations through an independent model call and renders highlights on the browser side using the CSS Custom Highlight API.
Core Features¶
- Automatic annotations: Annotations are automatically generated after a response is completed.
- Four highlight types: Supports four semantic types: key point, definition, warning, and question.
- Theme adaptation: Automatically adapts to light and dark themes.
- State persistence: Highlight state is restored after a page refresh.
- Local storage: Annotation data is stored in local JSONL files.
- Clean records: The original responses and conversation logs are not rewritten.
Highlight types and colors (light theme):
* key-point (key point): Bright yellow, used to mark conclusions and core facts.
* definition (definition): Blue, used to mark concept explanations and term definitions.
* warning (warning): Bright red, used to mark risks, limitations, and counterintuitive conclusions that require attention.
* question (question): Green, used to mark items to be confirmed and open questions.
Installation and Enablement¶
Make sure your environment meets the following requirements:
* DSH Web
* Node.js 20 or later
* A browser that supports the CSS Custom Highlight API
* A usable DeepSeek model route configured
Run the following command in the DSH working directory to install it into the web profile:
dsh plugin --profile web add github:Matcha-Eason/dsh-answer-highlighter
Typical Usage¶
- Start DSH Web.
- Begin a new conversation turn and enter a question.
- Wait for the main response to be completed.
- Usually wait another 3 to 8 seconds, and highlights will appear on the page.
By default, the plugin uses deepseek-official/deepseek-flash to generate annotations. If you need to change the model, you can modify provider and model in the plugin configuration, or configure them to the same route to keep them consistent with the main response model.
Notes¶
- Browser compatibility: The browser must support the CSS Custom Highlight API. Safari currently does not support it; if unsupported, the page will remain unchanged.
- Token consumption: After each response is completed, the plugin makes an additional model call to generate annotations, consuming extra tokens.
- Existing sessions: Existing sessions will not be retroactively annotated; only newly completed responses after the plugin starts will generate highlights.
- Data storage: Annotations are stored by default in the
$DSH_HOME/plugin-data/dsh-answer-highlighter/annotationsdirectory.
Conclusion¶
This plugin reduces the reading overhead of long-form text through visual assistance. It is suitable for developers who need to quickly extract key information from AI responses.
