Introduction

DeepSeek Harness (DSH) Web UI uses a unified default style. If you want to apply personal wallpapers, GIFs, or videos to specific UI areas and have the UI colors follow the wallpaper, you can use dsh-image-skin. This plugin allows you to place independent images or videos in different UI areas, add draggable stickers, and sample wallpaper colors to adjust the interface tone, without uploading anything to the cloud.

What It Is

dsh-image-skin is a plugin for DSH Web UI that provides area wallpaper and color-sampling features. It is maintained by Hwayn and follows the MIT license. It manages skin resources through the local file system, supports images, GIFs, and videos, and uses wallpaper colors to generate interface color schemes that meet contrast requirements.

Core Features

  • Area Art
Supports independently configuring images or videos for multiple UI areas, including the window background, center column, sidebar, welcome page, right panel, and editor. Each area can be independently enabled, and has configurable image source (light-only, shared by both modes, or unset) and fit mode.

  • Animation Support
The window background supports MP4 or WebM looped videos, while other areas support GIFs. A slider can adjust video playback speed.

  • Light/Dark Themes
Different wallpaper sets can be configured for light and dark modes. Wallpapers switch synchronously when the theme changes, with a shared image provided as a fallback.

  • Stickers
Add two freely draggable and resizable stickers to the sidebar and editor. Their positions are persistently saved.

  • Panel Transparency
Provides a slider to control the transparency of DSH’s own panels. The wallpaper can be seen through the panels, but the wallpaper itself is not darkened.

  • Color Sampling
Interface colors are sampled from the wallpaper. It includes a 0-4 depth slider (stepless) and three color-sampling modes:

    • Full-Screen Tint: All surfaces and borders are tinted with the primary tone.
    • Only Three Areas: Surfaces remain neutral; only selections, focus rings, and borders are tinted.
    • Two-Tone: Surfaces use the primary tone, while interactive colors use the wallpaper’s secondary tone.
  • Performance and Privacy
Animations affect only compositor-friendly properties, and text color rendering is optimized in long conversations. All files are stored only in the local $DSH_HOME/image-skin/ directory, and the plugin can be completely removed by disabling it.

Installation and Enablement

Use the official installation command to add the plugin:

dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-image-skin

After installation, restart the DSH Web host to apply the configuration:

dsh --profile web --no-open

Finally, perform a hard refresh in your browser (Ctrl+F5) to load the new plugin.

Typical Usage

Go to Settings → Image skin. The configuration is divided into two separate pages:

Images
* Edit Mode: Switch between “Light mode” and “Dark mode” to edit the corresponding wallpaper set.
* UI Areas: Click a card to add or select an image, then set the image source and fit mode.
* Corner Stickers: Add draggable stickers.
* Global Effects: Adjust panel transparency and video playback speed.
* Storage: Clean up image files that are not referenced by any area.

Colour
* Depth: Drag the 0-4 slider to adjust the depth of color coverage in real time.
* Color Path: Choose Full-Screen Tint, Only Three Areas, or Two-Tone mode.
* Sampled from Wallpaper: View the sampled colors and ensure the wallpaper is set and valid.

Notes

  • Desktop App Compatibility: Users of the desktop app (Electron) with version ≤ 0.4.1 may encounter a startup error due to a missing settingsScope. Please use version 0.4.2 or later. If you must use an older version, install with a manually specified version, for example dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-image-skin@0.4.8.
  • Old Feature Removal: The earlier “AI ornament” feature was removed due to UI conflicts. The current version focuses on wallpaper sampling and color sampling.
  • Local Execution: The plugin runs entirely locally and does not involve cloud uploads or account binding.

Conclusion

dsh-image-skin provides a highly customizable visual experience for DSH Web UI, supports videos and animations, and intelligently extracts color schemes from local wallpapers. For developers seeking interface personalization, it is a lightweight and reversible solution.
