Introduction

DeepSeek Harness (DSH) adopts an “everything is a plugin” architecture. During long development or debugging sessions, the default UI may struggle to meet visual comfort requirements. dsh-client-ui-solarized-grid is a theme plugin designed for the DSH desktop / web client. It aims to improve the visual experience for long reading and interaction through a Solarized color scheme and a graph-paper background.

Plugin Overview

This is a client theme plugin maintained by developer EYEjunnnn. It introduces the Solarized Light and Solarized Dark palettes to DSH, adds a simulated graph-paper background to the conversation area, and redesigns the conversation bubble styles.

Core Features

  • Solarized color scheme: Supports Light and Dark modes, remapping all --dsw-* tokens declared in the theme token table (alias layer, static color scales, and Shiki syntax colors).

Installation and Activation

The desktop client currently does not have a dsh CLI, so a copy-based installation (zero dependencies) is recommended.

  1. Extract or clone the repository into any directory.
  2. Close the DSH desktop app (to ensure the patch is loaded at startup).
  3. Run the install script. It automatically copies the files to <your profile>\plugins\dsh-client-ui-solarized-grid\ and handles the mount configuration.

Typical Usage

After installation, the theme applies on startup. To verify the configuration, check the cordis.patch.yml file in the profile directory and ensure it contains the mount line for ui-solarized-grid.

Uninstallation

Use the provided uninstall script to remove the mount line (and optionally delete the plugin directory):

If installed through a package manager, remove the package name from dsh.profile.bundles and run pnpm remove.

Design Notes and Considerations

  • First-load behavior: On first load, if the system preference resolves to dark mode, the theme is pinned to light mode once. You can switch it later in Settings → Appearance.
  • Semantic colors preserved: Semantic colors outside body text (such as code block comments and warning colors) retain their original Solarized values and are not deliberately darkened for contrast. This preserves the low-contrast reading character of Solarized itself and avoids harming the recognizability of syntax highlighting.
  • Grid drawing: The grid must be drawn on the scroll area instead of the body background, and background-attachment: local must be set.
  • Bubble border strip: The bubble border strip can only use inset box-shadow, so it narrows naturally with rounded corners; using a background-image gradient produces square corners.
  • Dark mode text: Text inside dark bubbles must be overridden with scoped dark-ink rules; otherwise, it can conflict with the background color.
