Introduction¶
DeepSeek Harness (DSH) uses a plugin-based architecture, and its default interface is practical-first. For developers or users who want a more immersive visual experience, a single solid color or the default background is often not enough. The dsh-wallpaper plugin supports local resources, allowing users to set local images and videos as the background of the DSH application window while preserving the readability of the interaction interface.
This plugin is maintained by community developer deepseaandhighsky-arch and is currently in a release candidate stage (v0.3.0-rc.7).
Core Features¶
Local Media Support¶
The plugin supports multiple local static and dynamic formats:
* Images: PNG, JPG, WebP.
* Videos: MP4 and WebM formats encoded with H.264.
Independent Settings and Control¶
- Settings Category: A dedicated “Wallpaper Background” category is added to the DSH settings menu.
- Area-specific Opacity Control: Four independent sliders are provided to separately control the background opacity of the “chat message area,” “left sidebar,” “top navigation,” and “input box.” Adjusting one does not interfere with the others, does not affect the visibility of the text itself, and does not reduce the overall visibility of the wallpaper.
- Dual Blur Adjustment:
- Wallpaper Blur: Applies blur to the background image/video itself.
- Panel Frosted-glass Strength: Applies a frosted-glass effect to UI panels (sidebar, navigation, etc.) to make text clearer against the background.
- Sidebar Visual Fix: When the wallpaper is enabled, the white fade overlay and hard cutoff line at the bottom of the sidebar are automatically removed, improving the scrolling experience.
Recoverability and Comparison¶
- One-click Restore: Disabling the plugin automatically rolls back style changes.
- A/B Comparison: When adjusting sliders or applying presets, the plugin automatically records the state before the changes. Users can preview the “before” and “current” effects in real time, and return to the baseline state using one-click restore.
- Appearance Presets: Presets named “Reading,” “Balanced,” “Immersive,” and custom presets are provided to apply multiple parameter sets with one click.
Local Privacy¶
- All wallpaper files are stored in the browser’s IndexedDB.
- Appearance preferences and custom presets are stored in localStorage.
- Data is saved only on the local client and is not uploaded to any remote service.
Installation and Enablement¶
The current version is a release candidate (v0.3.0-rc.7). Installation methods are as follows:
Method 1: Install via CLI¶
Run the following command in the terminal:
dsh plugin add github:deepseaandhighsky-arch/DSH-Wallpaper#v0.3.0-rc.7
Method 2: Install via UI¶
- Open the DSH application.
- Go to Plugins -> Add Plugin.
- Enter the installation address:
github:deepseaandhighsky-arch/DSH-Wallpaper#v0.3.0-rc.7. - Alternatively, select a local
.tgzfile to install.
Typical Usage¶
- Import Media: Import local image or video files through the plugin settings interface.
- Adjust Parameters: Drag the area-specific opacity sliders to adjust the background tint of the chat area and sidebar.
- Apply a Preset: Select the “Immersive” or “Balanced” preset, or manually adjust blur and frosted-glass strength to find the best reading experience.
- Compare and Validate: Use the A/B comparison feature during adjustments to view the differences.
Use Cases and Notes¶
- Version Status: The current release is only the v0.3.0-rc.7 release candidate. Visual acceptance for the official Desktop client is still in progress, so some features may have compatibility issues.
- Technical Limitations: Official DSH does not yet provide a
shell.backgroundslot. This plugin is implemented usingshell.overlay+ Portal. If DSH changes its layout, some areas may require additional adaptation. - Video Playback: Video playback depends on Chrome/Electron decoding capabilities and IndexedDB storage quota.
- Privacy Statement: This plugin is an unofficial third-party plugin and is not affiliated with or endorsed by DeepSeek.
Summary¶
dsh-wallpaper provides DSH users with flexible local visual customization. By offering independent control over opacity and frosted-glass strength, along with complete comparison and restore mechanisms, it significantly increases the personalization of the application window without changing the system wallpaper.
