Introduction

When using DeepSeek Harness (DSH), there is no immediate visual or auditory feedback after a task round completes or when the model is blocked waiting for input. dsh-task-ask-notify is a DSH host-side plugin that addresses this issue by using native Windows 11 notifications and an audible WAV prompt. When the model returns control or calls ask_user_question, the plugin immediately sends an alert without excessive delay.

Core Features

The plugin provides the following capabilities:

  • Windows 11 notifications: Displays real system notifications in the Action Center and respects your Windows Focus Assist settings.
  • WAV prompt sound: Plays an alert sound, with support for a custom sound directory and equally probable random playback.
  • Configuration methods: Supports configuration via a config file or the DSH plugin UI.
  • Self-test tool: Includes an adapter self-test tool to verify that basic functionality works correctly.

Installation and Enablement

The installation process is completed through DSH’s plugin manager. The plugin itself does not require Node.js to run; Node.js is only used for the bundled tools.

  1. Prepare the code
Place the code in the DSH plugin directory. An example path is:
    %USERPROFILE%\.dsh\dsh-plugins\dsh-task-ask-notify
The placement does not affect functionality; DSH reads the plugin information through plugin_manager.

  2. Install the Bundle
Run the following command in DSH to install the Bundle into the current Profile:

    plugin_manager install_bundle %USERPROFILE%\.dsh\dsh-plugins\dsh-task-ask-notify
If the command returns `application: "applied"`, it takes effect; if it returns `restart-required`, restart DSH.
  1. Verify the installation
Run the self-test tool to confirm basic capabilities:
    node tools/win-alert-selftest.mjs
An exit code of `0` indicates the self-test passed. Then start a task and let it complete, or have the model ask a question, and observe whether you receive a notification and prompt sound.

Typical Usage

The plugin includes a few Node.js tools for managing sounds and testing:

  • Run the self-test: node tools/win-alert-selftest.mjs
  • Import sounds: Copy an external asset package into the plugin data directory:
    node tools/import-audio.mjs --source "<你的素材包路径>"
The import tool performs SHA-256 validation on the files and writes them by default to `%DSH_HOME%\plugin-data\dsh-task-ask-notify\`; changes take effect without reinstalling.
  • Generate the default prompt: Generate the fallback audio/_default/chime.wav:
    node tools/gen-default-chime.mjs --check

Environment and Notes

Before use, ensure your environment meets the following requirements:

  • Operating system: Windows 10 2004 or later, or Windows 11.
  • DSH version: 0.2.0-rc.2 or later (requires host plugin Config and session/event interfaces).
  • PowerShell: the built-in Windows PowerShell 5.1.
  • Node.js: 20 or later, used only for running tests and bundled tools; the plugin itself does not require Node.js to run.

Known considerations:

  • Silent failure: If there is no response at all, the AUMID may not be registered in the Start Menu. In that case, Windows accepts the toast but does not display it.
  • Adapter launch mode: The adapter must not be started with detached: true; otherwise, Windows will discard the notification.

Conclusion

This plugin adds system-level notification capabilities to DSH, making task status feedback clearer. For more configuration options, the sound directory structure, and troubleshooting methods, refer to the GitHub repository.
