Introduction

DeepSeek Harness (DSH) adopts a plugin architecture, and document processing is a common requirement in AI agent development. Traditional approaches often rely on simulating mouse and keyboard operations, which are inefficient and unreliable. dsh-r7-office aims to solve this problem. As a DeepSeek Harness plugin or a standalone MCP server, it enables reading, editing, and converting DOCX, XLSX, PPTX, and PDF documents by manipulating raw OOXML data and invoking the local R7-Office engine.

Plugin Overview

  • Name: dsh-r7-office
  • Maintainer: blazar-source
  • Positioning: R7-Office document processing plugin and MCP server
  • License: MIT

Core Features

  1. Format-preserving editing: Replacements and edits preserve the original XML styles, fonts, colors, and numbering levels. Untouched portions are retained byte-for-byte.
  2. Full format support: Supports DOCX, XLSX, PPTX, and PDF.
  3. Built-in validation: Provides the r7_validate function to check package integrity before and after changes.
  4. Dual-mode operation: Can run as a DeepSeek Harness plugin or as a standalone MCP server.
  5. Optional live desktop bridging: Connects to R7-Office Desktop via WebSocket to drive documents already open by the user in real time (validated on Windows only).

Installation and Configuration

Environment Requirements

  • Node.js >= 20.0.0

Install as a DeepSeek Harness Plugin

Install the plugin directory as a Bundle into Harness:

dsh plugin --profile <profile> add /absolute/path/to/dsh-r7-office

Once activation succeeds, the system registers the corresponding tools (such as r7_inspect, r7_read, etc.) and enables the optional desktop bridging port.

Run as a Standalone MCP Server

The plugin supports the MCP protocol over standard input/output (stdio).

Start the service:

npm start

Or manually test the MCP server:

echo '{"rpc":"2.0","id":1,"method":"tools/list"}' | node src/mcp/cli.js

Typical Usage

The plugin includes multiple test cases that can be used to verify installation and functionality:

  • npm test: Portable test suite (does not depend on R7-Office).
  • npm run test:r7: R7-dependent tests (requires R7-Office to be installed).
  • npm run test:live: R7-Office file pipeline tests.
  • npm run test:harness: DeepSeek Harness plugin activation test.

Notes

  1. Unofficial project: This is a community-maintained project and is unrelated to АО «Р7» (R7-Office) or DeepSeek.
  2. Install R7-Office yourself: The plugin does not include R7-Office code or binaries. You must install and license it yourself.
  3. Permissions and security: The plugin runs with the permissions of the current DSH process. Ensure you review the source code and license before installation.
  4. Desktop bridging limitations: The live desktop bridging feature has been validated only on Windows.

Summary

dsh-r7-office provides standardized document processing capabilities for DeepSeek Harness, suitable for scenarios requiring fine-grained control over document formatting (such as preserving styles and numbering levels). Through the MCP protocol, it can also be invoked by other AI agent clients.
