Introduction

The design philosophy of DeepSeek Harness (DSH) is “everything is a plugin.” In the Web GUI, Tool calls and assistant messages are often mixed together, lacking visual hierarchy and making reading difficult. dsh-tool-indent is a browser-only UI plugin. Its core purpose is to add a unified left indentation to all Tool calls and provide a set of settings for adjusting appearance.

Plugin Positioning

This is a client-side UI plugin maintained by Asheep233. It does not change model behavior; it only optimizes the presentation of the Web GUI by manipulating CSS variables and DOM attributes.

Core Features

The plugin provides the following capabilities:

  1. Unified Indentation: Adds a unified left indentation to all Tool calls in the DSH Web GUI, visually separating call content from the assistant message.
  2. Appearance Settings: Under Settings → Tool Call Appearance, provides four sliders to control the indentation, dimming (opacity), and line spacing of Tool summaries and thinking summaries.
  3. Persistence: Settings are stored on the browser side via localStorage and remain in effect after a page refresh.
  4. CSS Variable Overrides: Supports global overrides via CSS variables --dsh-tool-indent, --dsh-tool-dim, --dsh-think-dim, and --dsh-row-leading.

Installation and Enablement

Use the official CLI to install it:

dsh plugin --profile web add github:Asheep233/dsh-tool-indent

After installation, find Settings → Tool Call Appearance in the DSH Web interface, where the plugin’s settings are displayed.

Typical Usage

The plugin’s default indentation value is calc(22px + font-size increment). These parameters can be adjusted through the settings page or custom CSS.

For example, override the variables via the browser console or custom styles:

:root {
  --dsh-tool-indent: 32px;
  --dsh-tool-dim: 0.6;
  --dsh-think-dim: 0.75;
  --dsh-row-leading: 4px;
}

Nested sub-calls (PTC) automatically render with progressive indentation; greater depth moves them further to the right.

Applicable Scenarios and Notes

  • Target Users: DSH Web GUI users and developers who need a clearer view of Tool call chains.
  • Scope: Affects only the main conversation content; the “Trace” table view on the right is not included.
  • Build Dependencies: The plugin uses React. During builds, react and react/jsx-runtime must remain external; otherwise, hook errors may occur.
  • Security Recommendation: The plugin is licensed under MIT. It is recommended to review the source code before installation to confirm there is no abnormal behavior.

Closing

dsh-tool-indent resolves visual clutter in Tool calls through simple CSS injection and is suitable for users who need fine-grained control over the appearance of the DSH Web GUI.
