Introduction

When developing agents in DSH, reading technical papers and organizing notes is a common high-frequency task. Existing approaches often require switching between applications, separating the reader from conversation and note-taking tools. The dsh-paperforge plugin integrates a PDF paper library, a dedicated AI conversation, and local Markdown notes, solving the need to “read, ask, and take notes” simultaneously, and lets the thinking process be directly accumulated within the DSH workflow.

This is a memory-oriented plugin maintained by PhysicalAI-0. It allows you to list and read PDFs in the workspace within the DSH web interface, generate notes by selecting text or taking screenshots, and follow up with the AI in a dedicated conversation.

Core Features

The plugin mainly provides the following capabilities:
1. Paper Library: Lists PDF files in the workspace in the left sidebar. Click one to enter the reading layout.
2. Annotation: Supports text selection highlighting (six colors) and boxed screenshots. Selected content is automatically written to the notes directory.
3. Ask AI: Use Ask AI on a selected paragraph or page header. The question is automatically enriched with @论文, the page number, and the selected text context, then sent to the dedicated conversation for that paper.
4. Markdown Editing: Supports block-level editing. Click to edit the source, and it is automatically saved when you leave. Changes made by the plugin and the AI are automatically merged.
5. Summary: In the chat tab of the paper library, select multiple conversations. The AI will consolidate them into a single Markdown document.
6. Copy Path: Click the copy icon in any document header to quickly obtain the file path.

Installation and Enablement

Ensure your DSH version is 0.1.7+ and that pnpm is included in your PATH.

Add the plugin using the official installation command:

dsh plugin --profile web add github:PhysicalAI-0/dsh-paperforge

After installation, start dsh web in the directory that contains your papers. A “Papers” entry will appear in the left sidebar. To uninstall, run:

dsh plugin --profile web remove dsh-paperforge

Configuration and Usage

The plugin provides a small number of configuration options that can override the default behavior. Add the following to ~/.dsh/profiles/web/cordis.patch.yml:

- id: paperforge
  config:
workspaceRoot: <论文目录的绝对路径> # 缺省 = 启动 dsh web 的目录
    notesDir: paperforge_notes # 笔记根目录名
    model: # 论文会话用的模型
      provider: deepseek-official
      name: deepseek-flash
      reasoningEffort: high

A typical workflow is as follows:
1. Start dsh web and click “Papers” in the left sidebar from the paper directory.
2. Select a paragraph and use Ask AI to follow up with the AI. The paper reference is automatically included in the context.
3. Highlight important text and figures; they are automatically collected into notes. Select conversations to generate a Summary.
4. If needed, configure workspaceRoot or notesDir to adjust storage locations, or configure model to specify the model for paper conversations.

Notes and Limitations

  1. Interface Limitation: The right sidebar supports at most two panels (DSH limitation). If more windows are needed, drag them into floating mode.
  2. Editing Limitation: Markdown is edited by block. Undo only takes effect within the current block; cross-block reference-style links and footnotes may not work.
  3. Summary Limitation: DSH allows at most three conversation references per message, so the plugin sends them in batches.
  4. Same-Name File Conflict: Same-named PDFs in different directories share one notes folder.
  5. Permission Execution: The plugin runs with the permissions of the current dsh process. Review the source code and license before installation.

Conclusion

By integrating reading, conversation, and note-taking, dsh-paperforge is suitable for developers who need to deeply research papers within DSH. For more details and source code, please refer to the GitHub repository.
