When developing tasks in DeepSeek Harness (DSH), key constraints or contextual information can easily get buried as the conversation progresses. dsh-you-should-know is a task reminder plugin that watches the conversation context while a task runs and reminds you of important facts, trade-offs, and background knowledge that may have been overlooked.

Core Features

The plugin provides interaction through a floating panel and does not displace conversation content.

  1. Floating Panel: Located above the input box, includes minimize controls, and does not change the scroll position of conversation content.
  2. On-Demand Explanations: You can view why a note is important, or mark a topic as “understood” if you are already familiar with it, to reduce repeated reminders.
  3. Continue Discussion: Bring notes and explanations into a selected main session so you can continue discussing them in depth, without overwriting existing drafts or attachments.
  4. Configuration Options:
    • Language: Follow the system or specify Chinese/English.
    • Observer Model: Select a model independently without changing the main session model.
    • Check Frequency: By default, checks once every 6 model steps.
    • Per-Turn Limit: Controls the maximum number of notes displayed in a single conversation turn.
    • Topic History: Manage the “seen” and “known” lists to avoid repeated reminders.
  5. Automatic Observation: Enabled by default; the observer follows the main session model run.

Install and Enable

Before installation, ensure the environment meets the requirements:
* DeepSeek Harness: >=0.2.0-rc.2 <0.3.0-0
* Node.js: >=22.19.0

Build from Source and Install

  1. Clone the repository and build the install package:
    git clone https://github.com/lolipop-1x1/dsh-you-should-know.git
    cd dsh-you-should-know
    npm ci
    npm run check
    npm pack
This generates the `dsh-you-should-know-0.1.0.tgz` file.
  1. Add the generated package to the Harness configuration file:
dsh plugin --profile web add -w /absolute/path/dsh-you-should-know-0.1.0.tgz
Replace `web` with your configuration profile name, and replace the path with the actual absolute path.
  1. After restarting Harness, go to Settings → You Should Know to confirm that the plugin has loaded.

Typical Usage

After starting a task, the plugin automatically runs observation. Note that short tasks usually do not trigger checks, and notes are not displayed every turn.

In the floating panel, you can:

  • Learn more: View the rationale and impact of a note. If an explanation in the same language exists, the existing explanation is reused.
  • Knew this already / Understood: Mark the current topic as known to reduce repeated reminders later.
  • Chat in main session: Insert the note and explanation into the main session. This is only executed when there is currently no draft or attachments. The send action is manually triggered by the user.
  • Dismiss: Close the note and provide a feedback option.
  • Minimize / Open note: Only toggles the panel display state, without submitting feedback or marking as understood.

Notes and Limitations

  1. Nature: Notes are not fact-checking or execution review; they may miss important details or contain inaccurate information. Bring them into the main session only when further discussion is needed.
  2. Check Logic:
    • Check counts are counted separately per “user-task” turn. Reloading the plugin does not reset the current turn’s count.
    • Check frequency is based on model steps, not individual tool calls.
  3. Skip Scenarios: Checks are skipped in the following cases: sub-agent sessions, sessions with no online display, an existing note, a check already in progress, notes already displayed for that turn, or active ignore backoff.
  4. Backoff Mechanism:
    • Notes that are not expanded close after two valid user inputs.
    • If notes are dismissed three times consecutively, the backoff sequence starts from 1, 2, 4, 8, and skips up to 16 checks. Active user interaction resets the backoff.
  5. Deduplication and Cleanup:
    • Topic deduplication depends on the model’s ability to recognize different expressions of the same topic; complete deduplication cannot be guaranteed.
    • Clearing topic history requires confirmation and affects only the selected list. Clearing one list does not guarantee that the topic appears in another list.
    • After clearing, the topic may still appear again in the current session in a different form.

Summary

dsh-you-should-know uses a separate background observer model to maintain sensitivity to context while a task runs, helping developers keep focus on key information. For DSH tasks that involve complex logic or multi-turn conversations, it is a tool that helps maintain contextual coherence.
