In the DeepSeek Harness (DSH) ecosystem, configuring fixed nicknames, reply styles, and tones for an Agent is a common requirement. Manually assembling the System Prompt is tedious and error-prone. The dsh-soul plugin provides a visual configuration interface for managing an Agent’s persona settings, and also supports quick modifications via the command line.
Plugin Overview¶
dsh-soul is a DSH plugin maintained by Aliuyanfeng, categorized as “Fun Dress-Up.” It helps users uniformly configure an Agent’s nickname, tone, reply style, and custom instructions through a Web UI and command-line tools.
Core Features¶
Web UI Configuration¶
The plugin includes a built-in Web UI with bilingual Chinese and English copy.
* Settings page experience: includes dirty detection (disables saving when there are no changes), save-result feedback, and a read-only prompt preview panel.
* “About You”: set the user’s nickname, occupation, and introduction.
* Style and tone: supports professional and rigorous, relaxed and natural, humorous and witty, roast master, and efficient and capable.
* Trait fine-tuning: layer headings and lists (default/more/less), emoji, and table presentation on top of the selected style.
* Reply length preference: concise, normal, detailed.
* Language and instructions: choose the output language (Chinese/English), with prompts localized according to the selected language. Custom instructions are also supported.
Persona Presets and Tools¶
- Persona presets: includes 7 built-in personas (Socratic Questioner, Minimalist, Senior Architect, Teaching Explainer, Strict Code Reviewer, Brainstorming Partner, and Self-Driven Collaborator). Users can save, switch, and delete custom personas. Presets only cover persona aspects (style, traits, etc.) and do not affect “About You.”
- Tool invocation: the Agent can call the
set_personatool to adjust the persona directly during a conversation. When confirmation mode is enabled, changes must be confirmed via/soul confirm. - Input box light trail: provides an appearance-only light trail effect for the input box (color, flow speed, light band thickness, and fading tail).
Robustness and Observability¶
- Configuration persistence: supports field whitelisting, type validation, length limits (nickname/occupation: 50, introduction: 500, custom instructions: 2000), and hexadecimal color validation. Writes use atomic replacement, with backup and reset supported when configuration is corrupted.
Installation¶
Install the plugin using the following command:
dsh plugin --profile <profile> add dsh-soul
Typical Usage¶
Web Interface Operations¶
After starting DSH, go to the “Personalization Settings” section of the settings page, modify the configuration, and click “Save Settings.”
Command-Line Operations¶
The plugin provides a set of slash commands for managing the configuration:
/soul show 查看当前配置(含确认模式、预设数量与送达状态)
/soul set k=v 修改配置项(如 /soul set style=humorous language=en)
After the configuration is saved, it is synchronized to all active Agents. The change-detection mechanism ensures that prompts are refreshed only when configuration changes that actually affect Agent behavior occur.
Notes¶
- Dependencies and compatibility: The plugin does not bundle DSH runtime packages; all are provided by the host.
peerDependencieschecks target the DSH runtime version (@deepseek-ai/dsh-app-boot) and support DSH 0.1.x and 0.2.x, including prerelease versions. - Prompt interpolation: Prompt interpolation is disabled.
{{…}}in custom instructions is retained literally and will not trigger assembly failures. - Light trail configuration: Input box light trail fields are appearance-only configuration. They are persisted only, are not included in the system prompt, and do not trigger session injection.
- Configuration corruption: If the configuration is corrupted, the plugin refuses to overwrite it. Users can use the
/soul resetfunction (which preserves the persona preset library) to repair it.
By combining structured configuration management with robust storage mechanisms, dsh-soul solves the cumbersome problem of customizing Agent personas in DSH. For scenarios that require managing Agent styles in bulk or switching personas quickly, this plugin provides a reliable solution.
