Preface

In the use of DeepSeek Harness (DSH), the interface appearance is usually fixed by default settings or manual settings. If you need to switch backgrounds based on the current session’s model, dsh-background-by-model provides a rule-based automated solution.

Basic Introduction

This plugin is an appearance plugin, belonging to the “fun theme customization” category, maintained by developer HarmlessFunny. It works by maintaining an ordered list of model rules and automatically applying the corresponding background settings when switching models. The core value of the plugin is binding background switching logic to model selection, achieving dynamic adaptation of the interface style.

Detailed Features

Model Rule Matching

The plugin works based on a rule list. Each rule in the list contains a match string and a complete set of background settings. The system scans the current session’s model name (combining provider, model ID, and display name) in order and finds the first matching rule (case-insensitive). If no match is found, the first rule is used as the default background.

Rule and Image Configuration

  • Rule-level configuration: Each rule can independently set image opacity, brightness, and blur.
  • Per-image settings: Each image under a rule can have an independent layout mode, border, and theme color.
  • Data storage: All configuration data is stored on disk (~/.dsh/.dsh-background-by-model-data/), not in browser localStorage.
  • Image carousel: Images within each rule support carousel playback, with customizable duration (5 seconds to 24 hours) and order (sequential playback or random). Note: the carousel feature is disabled by default and only takes effect under the currently active rule.
  • Global transition effects: Four global transition effects are supported: fade in (default), instant, zoom, and slide. Animation duration can be set, and easing functions such as standard, linear, and ease-out are supported.

Holiday Backgrounds

Provides holiday background switching for Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day. Holiday backgrounds are disabled by default and support lunar date detection (based on the Asia/Shanghai time zone). Holiday wallpapers must be downloaded online and do not support custom replacement.

Rule Management

Supports importing and exporting rules, making it easy to save and migrate configurations.

Installation and Enablement

Install through the DeepSeek Harness plugin directory:

# 在 DSH 环境中通过目录链接安装
# 目录地址:https://www.skillhub.cn/plugins/HarmlessFunny/dsh-background-by-model

After enabling, the plugin automatically listens for model switching events and applies the corresponding background settings.

Usage Examples

  1. Define matching rules: Add rules in the configuration page, set a match string (for example, “deepseek”), and upload the corresponding background images.
  2. Adjust visual effects: Set an independent layout, border, and theme color for each image, or adjust opacity, brightness, and blur at the rule level.
  3. Configure carousel: Enable the carousel feature in the rule editor and set the image switching duration and order.
  4. Set global effects: Select a global transition effect (such as fade in or zoom) and animation duration on the configuration page.
  5. Enable holiday backgrounds: Enable the holiday background feature on the configuration page (recommended setting). The plugin automatically switches wallpapers on specific dates.

Notes

  • Version changes: v0.3.0 is a breaking version; it removed video wallpapers, generated backgrounds, and a single global theme color setting.
  • Reduce motion mode: The system’s “reduce motion” setting prevents animations from playing, rather than shortening animation duration.
  • Carousel limitations: The carousel feature is disabled by default and takes effect only under the currently active rule.
  • Holiday wallpapers: Holiday wallpapers rely on online downloading and do not support local custom replacement.
  • Matching order: Rules are matched in order, and the first rule is the default rule (fallback).
  • Dependency requirements: Ensure that the DSH version satisfies >=0.2.1-alpha.2.

Conclusion

dsh-background-by-model provides DSH users with fine-grained, model-level appearance management capabilities through a rule-driven mechanism. Whether adding dynamism with a carousel or adding a sense of occasion with holiday backgrounds, personalized customization can be achieved without modifying core code.
