Foreword

DeepSeek Harness (DSH) supports agent-based task execution, but users often need to re-understand its reasoning process or specific steps after a task is completed. The CiteCiter plugin solves this problem: select a response, code snippet, or tool result, and the plugin creates a standalone Topic using that selection as a source, allowing you to ask follow-up questions, draw diagrams, or organize the content without modifying the main conversation.

Installation

CiteCiter requires DSH and an available model. Choose the corresponding plugin package based on the host version:

DSH version CiteCiter version
0.2.0-rc.2 (including the official desktop version), 0.2.1-alpha.1, 0.2.1-alpha.2 0.9.0-beta.1
0.1.7-rc.2 0.9.0-alpha.3

Command line and Web installation:

dsh plugin --profile web add @kirkchinese/dsh-citeciter@0.9.0-beta.1

After installing or upgrading, restart DSH and refresh the page. Do not use dsh plugin allow-version to force-load a plugin that does not match the host version.

Features

Understanding and follow-up
After selecting content, CiteCiter creates a standalone Topic with a source citation. In this Topic, you can continue asking questions, inspecting, or correcting the content, while the main conversation remains unchanged.

Relationship and process visualization
Supports a “small blackboard” feature for Markdown, formulas, tables, SVG, images, and isolated HTML. When needed, you can ask the model to draw a process on the blackboard to aid understanding.

Learning and retention
The generated understanding can be organized into “learning cards” and supports export and revision. Drafts and unsubmitted Q&A are saved automatically, allowing you to continue editing after refreshing or restarting.

Files and context
Supports discussions around real files, file and image attachments, a .txt / .md document reader, and a “CiteCiter Learning” entry in native file preview.

Reuse and continuation
New Topics reuse DSH’s model, tools, approvals, permissions, queuing, and interjection mechanisms. You can start from understanding and continue executing tasks.

Usage Steps

  1. In the main conversation, a tool result, or a document, select the relevant content, hold the right-click to open the wheel, and choose “Ask freely” or “Explain this section.”
  2. CiteCiter opens a draft, with the source URL and selected text added as removable attachments. Write your question, select a model, then send it manually.
  3. Continue asking follow-up questions about the selected text, or ask the model to draw the process on the small blackboard, and organize it into a learning card.
  4. Return to the original task, and use code, tool results, or a small experiment to check your understanding.

Notes

Permissions and visibility
New Topics are read-only by default. Even if the source session has higher permissions, the Topic only appears in Citer’s list and does not appear in DSH’s conversation list.

Compatibility and platforms
The plugin has been tested mainly on Windows; Linux and macOS have not been systematically tested.
Using different versions of DSH sequentially on the same browser URL may make drafts saved by the host itself incompatible.

Known issues
- On Windows, PowerShell in read-only mode may report language-mode errors or output garbled Chinese text.
- After restarting the official desktop version, other browser tabs that are still connected to the old backend may show a blank page; refresh them to recover.
