Introduction

In DeepSeek Harness (DSH) conversation scenarios, as the number of context messages grows, locating a specific historical node in a long list usually requires tedious scrolling. The dsh-message-navigator plugin adds a navigation rail to the right of the left sidebar and uses indexed messages to assist with locating content, providing a ChatGPT-like navigation experience.

Core Features

This plugin mainly solves message navigation and locating issues. Its specific capabilities are as follows:

  • Message Indexing and Location
    It indexes visible regular user messages and interjections in the current conversation, rendering markers in conversation order. Clicking a marker makes the view smoothly scroll to the corresponding chat node, with keyboard navigation and screen reader support.

  • Hover Preview and Visual Styling
    Navigation markers stay anchored to the right of the left sidebar and reposition in sync when the sidebar expands, collapses, or is dragged.

    • Marker Style: Consistently left-aligned with a 2px thickness; normal, current, and hover markers have a width ratio of 1:1.5:4.
    • Spacing Handling: Marker spacing is fixed at 7px by default and is dynamically compressed only when the total height exceeds the available height of the chat view. On hover, adjacent markers shorten progressively based on distance.
    • Content Preview: Hovering with the mouse or focusing a marker with the keyboard displays the current Q&A turn in the existing bubble: user messages support multi-line semibold display, while assistant responses use gray text. Stable previews are supported for plain text, images, files, and mixed attachments.

  • Smart Loading and Adaptation
    After the chat view opens, the plugin automatically loads earlier history through DSH’s official pagination API until all user messages in the current conversation are included in navigation.

    • Display Logic: Shown only when visible message anchors exist in the chat view; automatically hidden when switching to other conversation views.
    • Theming and Layout: Uses DSH theme tokens, works with light and dark themes, and adapts to narrow screens. It does not replace the conversation view; it only occupies the incremental Slot conversation.session.header.utilities.

Installation and Enablement

Use the DSH CLI to install the latest stable version (v1.0.2):

dsh plugin --profile web add github:yx-yinhe/dsh-message-navigator#v1.0.2

Restart the corresponding Web Profile after installation for the changes to take effect.

Typical Usage

  1. Open the chat view; message navigation markers appear to the right of the left sidebar.
  2. Hover over a marker, or focus it with the keyboard, to preview the current Q&A turn in the existing bubble.
  3. Click a marker to smoothly scroll to and locate the corresponding chat node.

Notes

This plugin depends on the semantic anchor data-chat-anchor-key exposed by the DSH chat view. If DSH changes the anchor name, update findChatAnchor accordingly.
The plugin runs with the current DSH process privileges. It is recommended to review the source code and license before installation.
